Exhibition: Sir Peter Blake’s Hope and Glory, Padstow

7 May 2016

Sir Peter Blake needs no introduction – a contemporary of David Hockney and an Royal Academian since the 60’s, he’s probably our best known home grown pop artist, using images from ads, collaged items, music hall entertainment and even wrestlers. I know him from his iconic sleeve design for the Beatles St Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club Band – This was pre-photoshop remember, so Pop artist Blake and his wife Jann Haworth constructed all the life-sized cut-outs of historical figures from cardboard. The set was photographed, with the Beatles standing in the centre

Now in his 80’s hes still producing new work – only this year designing the cover of Eric Clapton’s I Still Do Album

And now, in collaboration with The Drang Gallery, his new Exhibition Hope & Glory is a collection of rare and new works that celebrate British culture, heritage and wildlife. I just got back from the preview evening and had to tell you about it straight away!

Here’s the best bit – Proceeds from sales of the three exclusive ‘lobster’ pieces Sir Peter Blake has created (a silkscreen, a lithograph and an etching) will be donated to the National Lobster Hatchery, supporting their tireless marine conservation efforts.

Until 20th May 2016
