Sushi Night with Naoko, Penair School, Truro Thurs 16 June

Naoko is one hot mama in the kitchen. Mr MC and I attended her valentine banquet a few months back. Yummer! On thursday you can learn from the master at her sushi night – cure, trim and chop salmon and learn the secrets of her special soy sauce with elderflower.

Life’s a dream: Miracle Theatre at Heligan Sat 18 June

Those stunning rhododendrons at the Lost Garden of Heligan play backdrop to this Spanish jewel on Saturday. A young woman, travelling through a wild and mountainous region, discovers a Prince who has been imprisoned by his father since birth, to foil a prophecy that he will bring disaster to the world and death to the King. Prompted by the Woman, the King is overcome with remorse and sets his son free, giving him the chance to prove his good character. But is it ever possible to escape one’s fate?

On Saturday and Sunday Cotehele house are playing host to over 60 vintage and artisan exhibitors, live music, a catwalk and theatre act (saturday), workshops, classic cars and plenty to keep the kids out of your hair. The weekend coincides with the opening of the ‘Through the Looking Glass’ exhibition in Cotehele Gallery. No Johnny Depp, but works by painter Michael Hill, metal artist Spencer Larcombe and glassware artist Ed Burke

Walk the causeway to St Michael’s Mount. Children will be fascinated by the history, legends and myths surrounding St Michaels Mount (will they be able to find the giant’s heart in the pathway up to the castle or the well where the legendary giant is said to have fallen to his death?) and are able to explore and learn within the castle walls with an entertaining quiz that leads them through the castle searching for clues.
