A Proper Cornish Panto

10 Dec 2016

Hall for Cornwall Jack and the Beanstalk

Hall for Cornwall’s hilarious, homegrown Christmas show, starring Kernow King and Granville Saxon, is a feel-good adventure for all the family. But if you don’t live in Cornwall, some of the gags might be lost on you.

From the moment our unlikely hero Kenwyne snuggles down for bed under the Cornish flag with a giant pasty, you know there’s going to be a lot of local jokes in this festive production — and we loved them.

In this twist on Jack and the Beanstalk, the little farming village of Somewhere is under threat from a posh property developer, planning a luxury holiday complex. Not to mention the legendary giant Cormoran who is rumoured to be on the rampage. How will Jack and his cousin Kenwyne save the parish? No more spoilers – you’ll have to go and see it to find out.

And do go, it’s so much fun. Even my four-year-old (who couldn’t really follow the plot, loved it) and we both left the theatre with big grins, feeling a little bit smug to live in Cornwall… but don’t we always.

Jack and the Beanstalk runs to Dec 31st, at Hall for Cornwall, Truro.

Shows at 14.00 and 19.00.

Tickets: £15-£28
