Blissful Spa Break: St Moritz Hotel

2 Feb 2017

A properly stylish yet child-friendly hotel is like the holy grail of family holidays and the St Moritz on Cornwall’s north coast strikes the perfect balance. A hotel with a pedigree, it opened its doors in the 1940s and has offered a blissful bolthole to everyone from politicians to poets to er, Muddy Editors since – even The Queen has visited, so I’m in very good company.

Muddy tries new IonActive facial

23 Nov 2016

Its been an age since I caught up with Muddy award winning beauty salon Claire at Banburys in Launceston (blame island hoping, face stuffing and general slovenliness) and I heard a rumour that they were about to launch a new immediate results customisable facial – a countywide first no less! What what what? Well, the science bit goes like this: the  Dermatologica (thumbs up, great brand) IonActive facial combines ultrasound technology and gelloid massaging to address skin’s luminosity, smoothness and hydration levels.

5 hot tubs with stunning Cornish views

19 Sep 2016

The Danes have got it right, right? Alfresco bathing is not just a summer thing – they do it in the snow. I just got back from a business meeting in Aarhus that was conducted entirely in my editor’s beach home hot tub with seascapes rivalling ours here in Cornwall (well nearly). I’m thinking all meetings at Muddy HQ should be hot tub based – even with winter approaching, but while I get my accountant to confirm that’s a legitimate business expense (note to self – Cornwall self build and interiors show is next week), I’ll make do with these – five stunning locations with alfresco hot tubs.

The muddy Manipura massage experience

14 Sep 2016

Tresco – what’s not to love? Glorious sunshine, miles of white sand, gorgeous new England style cottages –  its every inch the glam holiday retreat for beautiful people. But on the hottest day of summer, I was certainly not looking beautiful. Mr MC had dragged me on an ‘offroad’ bike ride in blistering heat -sweating like a tomato in a greenhouse and to say I was ‘bedraggled’ is being kind. So while he went fishing, I booked myself into the gorgeous super exclusive Flying Boat Club spa in New Grimsby.

Muddy stays: Family centric hotel in Mawgan Porth

1 May 2016

Before I discovered the Bedruthan Hotel in Mawgan Porth near Newquay (and it seems I’m the last to know!), I’d been one to give hotels a wide berth when holidaying with the mudlets – it was always too damn difficult and self catering was how we played it. But I’m squeaking with excitement to have found possibly Cornwall’s most child friendly hotel and, you really should shortlist it for your next family break. ‘Child friendly’ doesn’t do it justice though – Family is really the centre of this uber stylish  modern spacious hotel bursting with life.

Muddy tries: Bedruthan Sensory Spa experience

30 Mar 2016

The Bedruthan Hotel is a personal Muddy favourite – uber cool and totally family friendly, it’s nestled on a cliff top above the magnificent Mawgan Porth Beach between Padstow and Newquay.

When I heard about the new Sensory Spa Garden, designed to invigorate all your senses in a one-hour experience, I was packing quicker than you can say grab your speedos, we’re off to Mawgan Porth. This was a chance to put the kids in the (free to guests) kids club, and take some time out for ourselves (and each other).

Win! £1000 spa break in Buckinghamshire

17 Mar 2016

I know what you’re thinking: a spa break in another county? But of course! When you could win an overnight stay in non other than Stoke Park. This little beauty is soo fabulous, I’d sell Mr Muddy Cornwall to be in with a chance. Sadly I can’t (Mr MC breathes a sigh of relief) but you could…

Stoke Park in Buckinghamshire is the hotel where Bridget Jones romped on the four poster with Daniel Carver (and where  Hero from Muddy Stilettos Bucks and Oxon later snored her way through  in replica big pants heh heh); where Daniel Craig acted his ears off in Layercake; where James Bond played golf in Goldfinger.

Muddy tries Lycon hair removal

14 Mar 2016

For me, waxing is up there with teeth removal – or eye surgery. Like many of us, I have more than a few horror stories behind me. I’d avoided waxing my er intimate areas (apologies to all who know me) since a moment of madness at a local college beauty salon had me needing skin grafts. Ok not quite, but I did lose several layers of skin to a trainee named Alysha, but not much hair, and my skin took weeks to recover.
