Muddy says: a family-friendly harbourside restaurant in the pretty (and increasingly foodie) village of Porthleven. We love Amélies for its great seafood and mega Sunday lunches.
Housed in a brightly painted, old smokehouse on beautiful Porthleven harbour, Amélies is award-winning indie restaurant by the sea. Owner Sam is all about simple food, locally sourced and cooked really well. Fresh fish dishes star on the menu, showcasing Cornwall’s bounty with classics like moule mariniére and crab cakes as well as great sharers, like seafood tapas and salt and pepper squid. Woodfired pizzas and Sunday lunches (often accompanied by live music) are also a firm fixture here.
Fresh and bright, Amélies has a contemporary coastal feel, with a cladded bar and light airy décor. It’s a great family place, where dogs and children – who have their own, exciting menu – are welcomed with open arms.
When they are not serving up Sunday roasts with the most, the Amélies team hosts beautiful weddings some summer weekends. Fancy boats bobbing in a Cornish harbour as the backdrop for your big day? This is the place — for food your guests will always remember and beautiful photo opportunities galore.
Sam coordinates the weddings personally. She’s really creative and has loads of ideas for menus, drinks and quirky touches but it’s absolutely not about packages — every wedding is unique. The venue is licensed for ceremonies and can accommodate up to 70 guests in the main restaurant, while the new glass-covered terrace is perfect for drinks and mingling. There are loads of places to stay in the village, so there’s no need for taxis and you’ll run into guests all weekend. For photos, the harbour, slipway, beach and cliff-tops offer up lots of stunning options.
