Polurrian Bay Hotel

Muddy says: A luxurious and relaxing escape with the kids? Yes, I’ve found family holiday Shangri-la at this stylish hotel (with a 2AA rosette restaurant) in Cornwall.

Polurrian Bay Hotel, The Lizard Peninsula, Cornwall

Lots of people visit Cornwall but not so many make it as far as the stunningly beautiful Lizard Peninsula. And Polurrian Bay Hotel, within easy reach of Mullion, Porthleven and Kynance Cove, is the perfect base from which to explore it.

Though frankly, you may not feel the need to leave the hotel at all. Perched on the clifftops overlooking the sea, Polurrian Bay is a luxury family stay, where you can completely bliss out — with kids in tow (yes this is possible, hear me out).

Room rates generally include some free childcare and there is loads for your little folk to enjoy here – from indoor and outdoor pools and tennis courts to extensive gardens and a private beach. Organised activities are also on offer, like Breakfast Club, so you can head back to bed, nibble croissants and read the papers in peace. Nice touch! Oh and Polurrian is dog-friendly too, so you can literally bring the whole crew.

A hotel with a history, the current building was constructed in the early 20th century and has hosted the likes of Winston Churchill and Clark Gable, who shot scenes from a movie here. But it has recently undergone a swanky refurbishment to create the stylish, family-centered retreat you’ll find today.

The Polurrian’s 2AA rosette restaurant focuses on Cornish-inspired dishes made with quality local produce and welcomes non-residents too. There are several sittings for meals throughout the day and in the evening, to cater for the needs of various ages. Children have the option of high tea from 5-6pm and after they are tucked up in bed, you can switch on the baby listening device (or get a sitter) and head down for a romantic dinner.

Finally, be sure to book into the Purity Spa – open to residents and as a day spa. There are lots of packages on offer, from affordable mini retreats to luxurious, head-to-toe pampering.
