The Sands Resort, Hotel & Spa
Muddy says: A family-centred hotel and spa a stone’s throw from beautiful Porth beach. Guests keep coming back for the comfy rooms, friendly welcome and extensive facilities.
The Sands Resort Hotel & Spa is perched on picturesque clifftops overlooking the sea on the edge of Porth, near Newquay. This family-run resort is geared up for guests of all ages with a variety of spacious rooms and suites and plenty of diversions on and off site.
There is a wide choice of accommodation, from contemporary, sea view doubles for couples or spa weekenders to roomy suites, apartments and interconnecting rooms for families of up to 7. And its not just the rooms that make The Sands an incredibly easy and relaxing place to have a holiday with children. The Sands’ staff are incredibly friendly and really go the extra mile, understanding the challenges of a family holiday with kids in tow.
Older children can wear themselves out in the indoor and outdoor pools, 9-hole golf course and tennis courts, while littlies will love the playgrounds, soft play and (Ofsted approved) kids’ clubs. From 2018 The Sands will be offering a free childcare session, per child per day for the duration of your stay. And if your children are very little, carriers, buggies, bottle warmers and sterilisers are all available for hire free of charge, which super handy if you’re flying in to nearby Newquay airport.
The Sands’ Beachcomber restaurant serves a mix of modern Mediterranean-inspired dishes and classic British crowd pleasers starring locally sourced produce – not to mention a very hearty Cornish breakfast. Children are more than welcome in the hotel restaurant or you can opt for early family supper and take them to evening kids club, while you enjoy a grown-up dinner for two. There’s also a complimentary baby listening service.
As well as the original Ocean Breeze Spa, with its pool, gym, steam room and extensive menu of treatments, a Moroccan-inspired space has recently opened, with a bubble cedar hot tub, barrel sauna and atmospheric lounge for sipping mint tea.
Nearby, Porth beach an easy walk away. It’s very popular with families, with plenty of sand to play on and safe swimming in summer. While the quieter Whipsiderry Beach is also well within walking distance if you don’t mind the steep access.
