Fa-la-la! Festive Cornish afternoon teas

Towering tiers of festive fancies, seasonal savouries, lashings of clotted cream and maybe a glass or two of fizz (hic!). Oh, go on then...

Pinkies poised for a Christmas afternoon tea. Here’s six of our favourite foodie hangouts to nibble festive fancies in Cornwall.

Festive Afternoon Tea, The Headland Hotel, Newquay

Feast on full afternoon tea with fancy cakes, delicious sandwiches, and homemade scones with oodles of Cornish clotted cream and jam in the beautiful Samphire restaurant at The Headland in Newquay, and add fizz to make it extra special. Once you’ve eaten, exchange your token for a bauble from the HUGE tree to hang on your own tree at home. My kids adored the special kids version complete with jam sandwiches and snowflake shortcake biscuits and their own pots of tea!

Festive Afternoon Tea, Polurrian on the Lizard

So good that it won Afternoon Tea of the Year Awards 2019, sit back and watch the waves whilst indulging in a laid-back festive afternoon tea that includes festive sandwiches, cakes and tea, from £16.50pp. Booking essential, open to non-residents.

Cornish Christmas afternoon tea, The Greenbank Hotel, Falmouth

Seasonal sandwiches and festive sweet treats which include spiced orange macaroons, cinnamon-spiced chocolate orange roulade, rum-soaked panettone trifle and scorched Italian meringue can be made into a bottomless afternoon tea at The Greenbank – looking out over Falmouth’s beautiful harbour. Booking essential, from £22pp.

Festive Afternoon Tea at The Alverton, Truro

Cosy up by the roaring fire this winter to enjoy The Alverton‘s scrummy afternoon tea with a festive twist. Enjoy seasonal sandwiches, Christmassy cakes, scones and other sweet delights, and a glass of piping hot mulled wine. £22pp, 24-hours booking notice required. Add children from £12pp with hot chocolate instead of mulled wine.

HarBar Festive Afternoon Tea at The Harbour Hotel, St Ives

Sit back with a glorious view over Porthminster Beach with St Ives harbour in the background and enjoy a festive take on the HarBar’s scrumptious afternoon tea, with mini mince pies and berry pavlovas on offer as well as spiced fruit scones.

Afternoon Tea at Fowey Hall Hotel

Add a glass of Camel Valley fizz to the afternoon tea at Fowey Hall Hotel and you’ve a festive afternoon tea by the fire (or in one of the dining igloos with views over the estuary) – scones, sandwiches and their own blend of tea. Take a coastal stroll, then hunker down by the fire for some informal indulgence.
