Boutique Spa & Bistro by the Sea

A Cornish retreat where you can leave the world behind. Get Crantock Bay Spa on your go-to list and be sure to grab lunch at C-Bay while you're at it.

In need of a little pampering? Here’s a dreamy proposition for you: take a stroll on one of Cornwall’s beautiful north coast beaches, followed by a luxurious spa treatment and fresh seafood lunch overlooking the ocean.

I’ve been really excited to tell you all about Crantock Bay Spa since I visited last week because it is such a great, addition to an already awesome area.

Family-run Crantock Bay is set back from the cliffs, at the end of West Pentire Headland, overlooking Crantock Beach. The business started life as a hotel but has since been converted into luxury apartments by owners Nina and Tony Eyles. There is also a popular cafe/ bistro, indoor heated pool, jacuzzi, tennis court and a luxurious new boutique spa. In other words, everything you need for a blissful day out!

Crantock Bay Spa opened last summer (2017) and it’s the ideal place to take some chilled time out with a pal or partner. The combination of wild beach and tranquil retreat has magical restorative powers – not to mention the amazing Made for Life Organics treatments.

The holistic spa is small but perfectly formed, with three stylishly appointed treatment rooms and a relaxation room, where you can lounge around drinking tea as you come-to.

I tried out the ‘Pure Harmony’ spa day (with Daisy who’s a pro) and it was one of the loveliest treatment combos I’ve ever had. I felt so nurtured and floaty when it finished and nodded off repeatedly throughout.

It is three treatments in one actually, flowing from facial to aromatherapy massage to head massage. As well as feeling totally spaced out afterwards my skin was glowing for the next couple of days. Everything from the warm massage bed and towels to the soothing music, incredible smelling oils and lovely sweeping strokes made it a totally transporting experience.

C-Bay Bistro, just downstairs, opened in October 2013. It’s one of those places that’s been hiding under my nose, because we go to Crantock loads and had never stopped in. I definitely will in future.

During the day it’s a brilliant brunch venue or coffee and cake spot that welcomes children and dogs. It’s also perfect for a relaxed lunch. The colourful salads and noodle broth looked fresh and healthy for a midday bite and there are more substantial dishes if you’ve worked up an appetite in the waves.

In the evening C-Bay becomes a bar/ bistro, with a more sophisticated menu featuring lots of local produce and fresh seafood.

The space is light and airy, making the most of the views and opens onto a deck and garden, significantly increasing the space on sunny days. Expanding the interior space at C-Bay is Nina and Tony’s next project.

Good for: A relaxing day out when you need a real treat/ a scenic brunch or coffee/ fresh seafood by the sea.

Not for: Although guests in the apartments make use of the spa, there aren’t stay-over spa weekends on offer.

The damage: The Pure Harmony Spa Day costs £85, including a 2-course lunch at C-Bay and use of the facilities. Fantastic value in my opinion.
