Lazy Jacks Kitchen: ‘Fairly Well Known’ Fodder is Back!
Just a quicky between hurricanes to let you know that after regular winter closure, Lazy Jack’s Kitchen the delightful ice-cream parlour and take away is OPEN (in capitals!) for business again, selling ice cream, sarnies, hot drinks and toasties.
Rest assured, the ‘LJK Fairly well known three cheese toastie’ is back (made with three types of cheese, three types of onion, garlic and tomato) and wearing the crown of top of the shop favourite. New for 2016 is the Mac ‘n’ Cheese toastie. Yes carb fans, you heard that right: macaroni and cheese in a toastie. With spring onion too. Which makes it healthy right? Control pants for me this summer then.
I’m no fairweather friend of icecream. Icecream and I are like so tight all year. Or baes even (#heart eyes emoji). My god I’m spending too much time with the Muddies. Roll on summer term. Despite the rain, Kati (not a hurricane) persuaded me to try the Moomaid of Zennor Shipwreck Salted Toffee which is as awesome as it sounds and has caramel and honeycomb pieces. I’m pretty sure she is a feeder as she also persuaded Mick (that’s him below) to shout me a free chocolate dip. And look at this – should you be caught in a storm, just ask for one of their patented ice cream brollies:
Along side regular Moomaid, you will find LJK’s brand spanking new Twisted Jacks icecream- their all new proprietary old-school soft-serve with a twist! Whoop whoop! Mike and the team are creating fun and unique ice creams, toppings, and frozen treats. Chose from Jimmy Screwball, Abandon Mint, Iggy Popcorn, Choc & Roll Swindle, Cookie Monster, Cherry Potter, Dipstick, Ripple Effect and more. Their soft serve is made with organic milk and cream and contains NO palm oil – that’s what makes it different.
Prefer something a bit warmer this time of year? Try their Campfire Hot Chocolate – a favourite with the mudlets – hot choc with caramelised mini marshmallows. Or what about a Cornish Affogato, made with Twisted Jacks soft-serve? Not strictly hot, but definately 50% cool.
The shop has had a redesign for ‘season 4’, and is jam packed with 70’s toy memorabilia – uber kitsch, just how we roll – and Mike and the team don’t take themselves seriously. This is what I found on their twitter feed this morning:
Want a Brucey bonus? Come in and order your coffee in a specific voice, and you’ll get it free. Recent ‘voice of the day’s include Fozzy Bear, Sean Connery, Lesley Philips, Michael Cain. Yes really. More freebies if your name is [insert name of day here] and if you complete the daily challenge, be it walking like Basil Fawlty or balancing a spoon on your nose.
Also on the cards this summer is the pop-up event at Lerryn – launching St Georges Day 23 April. Join LJK, with their classic VW 1976 double cab in collaboration with The Boat House at Lerryn. Lambs, Classic Cars, Fairground Rides, Brass Bands! What’s not to like? Fun day on the green from 11am. I shall be there, reporting live. Up periscope! LJK will be there atleast three days a week over the summer months so don’t sweat it if you can’t make 23rd.
THE MUDDY VERDICT:
Good for: Icecream officionados, fans of kitsch, deadpan humourists. Those willing to forfeit their dignity for a laugh and a free coffee.
Not for: Serious types. Chain shop coffee loyalists. Farrow and Ball enthusiasts. Those who ask stupid questions. If you ask a ‘stupid question’, LJK reserve the right to include that question on the stupid question board. They will tell you that with a straight face, but tongue firmly in cheek!
£££ Super reasonable – especially for a seaside town. Pretty much everything is under a fiver (except the locally caught crab – a fisherman has to earn a living you know.).
