Skincare Secrets of The Deep: Living Sea Therapy

A new Cornish beauty brand brings the mineral-rich waters of the Lizard straight to your bathroom.

Whether you’re a fair weather swimmer or brave the Cornish waters year round, there’s no denying the healing benefits of a dip in the ocean, from boosting immunity to easing skin conditions. Now a new skincare brand is harnessing the power of the beautiful Cornish sea with a range of salt and seaweed based products.

Living Sea Therapy, Cornish skincare range

And there’s some super marine science behind this new range! Living Sea Therapy worked with sister brands Cornish Sea Salt Co. and Cornish Seaweed Co. as well as a team of marine biologists, environmentalists and leading therapists to develop their wonder ingredient ‘Living Sea Complex’. This marine elixir combines three vital elements to harness the restorative powers of the sea for your skin.

Hand foraging seaweeds for Living Sea Therapy, Cornish skincare range
The sea salt, sea minerals and nutrient-rich seaweeds used in Living Sea Therapy products are all hand harvested from the unique cobalt waters of the Lizard Peninsula, using sustainable, zero-impact methods. The waters surrounding the Lizard’s rocky shores contain an array of more than 60 minerals, which are all natural constituents of Cornish Sea Salt – riches found nowhere else on the planet in a coastal location. To this is added a trio of seaweeds — bladderwrack, sea spaghetti and kombu — that are known for their detoxifying and anti-ageing properties and are rich in antioxidants and vitamins. And finally a concentration of sea salt minerals, with the same salinity levels of the Dead Sea but a whopping three times as many minerals.

So you see, you really won’t find skincare like this anywhere else. Here’s the lowdown on the products I tried…

Handcare duo from Living Sea Therapy, Cornish skincare range

HAND POLISH & CREAM, £18 each

When I think about it my hands are probably the hardest working part of my body, between constant typing, household chores and gardening – and they definitely get neglected. It’s been lovely to get up from the computer now and again over the last week and give my hands a little TLC. Start with the polish – with natural pumice to exfoliate, super sea minerals and uplifting bergamot, then hydrate hands with the cream, a concentrated formula packed with over 60 marine minerals and a trio of seaweed extracts

Perfect for: A daily self-care ritual whenever you have a quiet five minutes

Sea Salt Scrub from Living Sea Therapy, Cornish skincare range

SEA SALT SCRUB, £26

Dry winter skin begone! If you really want that fresh from the ocean feeling, this sea salt scrub is UH-MAZING. The texture is properly salty, so go gently with the buffing but after just one use the bumpy backs of my arms were smooth again and I’ve used it a couple of times a week on the area since to keep them that way. As with all these products you get all the natural benefits of pure Cornish sea salt, minerals and seaweeds, with the invigorating addition of lemongrass, peppermint and cardamom essential oils.

Perfect for: smoothing away dead skin cells and waking up tired winter skin.

Bath Salts from Living Sea Therapy, Cornish skincare range

BATH SALTS, £18

One of those products that massively went out of fashion and I now consider to be the ultimate luxury. My mum ran salt baths every day for a week after my children were born, such is the natural healing power of a good salty soak and these bath salts are total bliss. Well they would be… they’re blended with sage, chamomile and lavender pure essential oils, mineral-rich sea salt flakes and a trio of Cornish wild seaweeds.

Perfect for: a healing soak after a tough day or an indulgent start to a winter morning.
