Wagstaff Watches

Respect to British indie watch brand Wagstaff - taking on the Swiss big boys with a super-stylish watch costing... £95! Did someone say 'Christmas gift'?

It’s no secret that we love a plucky indie business at Muddy Stilettos, and Wagstaff Watches already have us signed, sealed and organising Christmas delivery with their first slick, masculine watch.

Aren’t you just so handsome? (er, and the watch).

Chunky enough for the macho man in your life but also an attractive option for women – I for one am very partial to wearing men’s watches – the price is a quite incredible £95. When you have this watch in your hands, you can’t believe it’s possibly that price. Even more so when you read the small print and see that there’s an absolute no quibble return on faulty watches. FOREVER!

I’m rather tickled by the fact that Yorkshire-based father and son team Peter and Jordan Foster have never been in the timepiece game before and just decided in 2016 that watches were overpriced and they could do it as well as the big boys for much better value. In true Northern style, they rolled up their sleeves and two months back saw the first batch of their own watches become a reality.

But what I’m also absolutely loving about the family-run Wagstaff Watches is the ethics and care that underpins this rural business. Integral to the ethos of the brand is its countryside credentials – the tag line is ‘Time for the Country’, and a percentage of the profits will be ploughed back into dying countryside skills and pursuits as well as supporting rural apprenticeships.

This very first watch comes in two colourways (black graphite or sand) and no surprise, given the company is named after Peter Foster’s Northern grandpa Mr Wagstaff, that it’s called the ‘Yorkshire’. However, I’ll see what I can do on Devon’s behalf for a timepiece coined ‘The Dartmoor’.  It’s got a ring to it, no?
