Muddy Finds: Contemporary Coastal Designer, Bordh

image3 (1)

I’ve been on a bit of an jaunt to find laid back coastal modern furniture that doesn’t look I’ve picked it out of the twee seaside cliché catalogue and.. drum roll..can I get a whoop whoop? I’ve found it! Ok, I might actually need a beach house now to go with Neil Adams iconic surfboard table, but I’m sure his cool contemporary designs are dead cert future classics.

“We can help people come up with designs or we can put their pictures on the tables,” says Neil of interiors company Bordh Ltd.  Addicted to colour? (yes m’lud!) Bordh tables come in all colourways from jewelled Kynance Cove green to sand yellow. Want rustic wood? You got it. What about your initials spelled out in Swarovski crystals? No problem. The starting point is you dear reader. Neil will create a design to match your taste and personality – or even just your curtains if that’s your bag. The idea is to make them all different.

If you google Neil (that’s him above), you’ll probably get hundreds of results for the ex-Norwich City manager. That’s not him. This Neil is ex-Devon, ex-Navy (with an impressive 8 year service history including a tour of Iraq) who retrained as an electrician – which taught him alot about running a business. The idea for Bordh was born last summer, after (as most fabulous ideas are) a few drinks bbq on the beach. Several fine tuning iterations later, et voila – Bordh is a truly unique Cornish product. And you don’t need to be a surfer to own one.

Neil hopes his tables, which cost between £1,500 and £3,000, will help showcase Cornish businesses – he’s working with a number of restaurants, creating branded meet and greet reception area tables. And in case you haven’t already guessed where the name of the company comes from, ‘bordh’ means ‘table’ in Cornish.

As a dad-of-twins-to-be (eeeek! good luck with that in September) he’s finding himself subconsciously auto-Meerkating his environment – but this is just another lightbulb moment for Neil – the curved nature of the tables and solid design lends itself brilliantly to baby/ child furniture – and as soon as he says this I can see it – The Eames children’s collection comes to mind and totally, a mini muddy version would go down a storm please!

Current collaborations are super hush hush – if I told you I’d have to kill you, though Neil’s excitement about working with a top artist is palpable. He’s bursting with ideas, energy and enthusiasm that can’t fail to ruboff on anyone he talks to.

I would at this point direct you to the website so you can see more of what Neil does but its looks like it’s under construction at the mo, so for now see for yourself in the flesh: Neil will be exhibiting at the Cornwall Home and Lifestyle Show in Wadebridge this weekend(30 Apr – 1 May). And he’s keynote speaker at The Waymarker chat and eat event on 12 May (Email Taor – for ticket info).

Don’t be surprised if you see Neil’s tables pop up in the stores of London’s Brompton Road sometime soon peeps – but remember, you heard it here first. Nab yourself a future classic. No need to thank me.
