Where’s the best place to live in Cornwall?

The Sunday Times has revealed its top spots to live in 2020 - but did your hometown make the cut?

It looks like we’ll all be spending plenty of time at home at the moment, so what better time to appreciate where you’re living (or, alternatively, start dreamily house-hunting on Rightmove)? The Sunday Times has just released its annual round-up of the best spots in the country to lay your hat – its Best Places to Live Guide 2020, takes into account house prices, air quality, good schools and access to green spaces, as well as community spirit – we can all use a spade load of that right now!

Altrincham in Greater Manchester took national top spot (pah!), but two of our local towns – Mylor and Wadebridge – made it onto the the Best of the South West list. Bravo!

Wadebridge (near the north coast) won top points for the mix of friendly independent businesses, access to the countryside (including meadows, estuary, beaches and moorland) as well as nearby posh nosh in Padstow via the Camel Trail and the gastro-pubs St Tudy Inn and the St Kew Inn. Add in the eco-friendly out-of-town shopping at Hawksfield on the A39 (where you’ll find Muddy finalists Jo&Co as well as Finisterre and a great cup of coffee at Strong Adolfos) and culture thanks to the cinema and live music, and you can see why Wadebridge is becoming such a popular location. It is also my nearest town!

Mylor, meanwhile is on the south coast and as they say, is all about the water. “Most of the residents have some kind of vessel, whether it’s a yacht, a rowing boat or just a kayak or paddleboard; those who don’t like getting wet can get their salty sea views with a bracing walk around Trefusis Headland to Flushing”.

If you’re not in one of these two towns for the foreseeable (let’s not even guess what month we’ll be allowed our of own homes), take a look at who else made the cut in our area.
