Travel in style: your Cornwall holiday kit list
Live your best staycation life. We round up the essential ingredients for a fuss-free, fabulous Cornwall holiday – with lots of options from cool local businesses.
Under my umbrella
Live your chicest beach life with this beautiful parasol from new Cornish brand, Rae the Label. Incorporating natural cotton fringing, Forest Stewardship Council certified wood and recycled poly cotton canvas, Rae umbrellas are the ultimate beach accessory.
Forget cheap plastic bodyboards which break after two waves and clog up landfill. Get the real Cornish wooden deal – a Dick Peace bellyboard, handcrafted from sustainable materials in Newquay using traditional methods and finished in pretty much any colour you can think of.
Those are my beach towels and five years on they still look as good. Super easy to pack, quick to dry and stylish on a hook in your bathroom, these Ebb and Flow hamman towels are just what you need for your beach hols. They’ve since added more styles and the candy pink stripes are firmly on my wish list.
Life’s a beach (blanket)
We love this fleece picnic blanket with waterproof back and use it everywhere we go including the beach. Made by Newquay based Atlantic Blankets, it can be machined washed.
Nautical but nice
Waft about in the ocean safely knowing you’re doing your bit for the planet. Davy J is a sustainable swimwear brands, using recycled fishing nets and production waste that’s found floating in our oceans. It’s bikinis and one pieces are an investment, but the classic, super-flattering styles will last for years. We’re obsessed with high waisted mix and match bikinis and the cross back suits.
Get Carried Away
The time has come to ditch that crumpled IKEA bag you’ve been using (just me?) and feast your eyes on these. Originally designed and purposed to carry wetsuits and kit easily after a surf, they are durable, quick-drying and easy to wipe down when the kids drop a half eaten ice-lolly in it. Also handmade in Bude, Cornwall.
Rain never stops play
Just because rain is forecast doesn’t mean it will arrive, but anyone who spends any time in Cornwall knows that whatever the forecast you need a rain coat in your beach bag alongside your bikini… the best are made by St Agnes brand Finisterre. We like the Rainbird which is lightweight, fully waterproof and made from recycled (GRS certified) polyester which is FC-free. As they say, light on your back (or bag), light on the planet, if a little heavy on the wallet.
Read all about it
As you can’t pack Muddy and take it to read unless you also take your phone, switch off with the next best thing with our pick of the beach reads – Cornwall themed, obvs.
