An Mor Hotel, Bude
Muddy says: A cool and quirky hotel in the centre of Bude and just moments from the beach. They do gin parties too – sign us up.
Overlooking the sandy expanse of Bude’s Summerleaze beach, An Mor (Cornish for “the sea”) boasts some stunning coastal views. Its interior is pretty easy on the eye too – the 28-room hotel was refurbished in 2015 and there are stylish design touches at every turn, from carousel horses to bowler hat lights. And while the aesthetics are obviously important they haven’t sacrificed comfort and practicality – rooms come with high-spec king-size beds, spacious bathrooms and iPod docking stations.
The beach is just a few minutes walk away and is popular with both surfers and families. Bude Sea Pool, part man-made and part natural rock pool, is a particular attraction and offers a more relaxed, child-friendly dip when the sea is choppy. There are plenty of independent shops and restaurants to explore in the town and the South West Coast Path provides some beautiful walks along the North Cornwall coastline.
If you’re after some more grown-up fun, the An Mor gin experiences are a fine way to while away an afternoon or evening. As well as learning about the history of gin and sampling different flavours, guests can concoct their very own gin recipe before firing up a copper still to produce a bottle to take home.
