Halsetown Inn, St Ives

Muddy says: The Halsetown’s Inn is set in the countryside just outside St Ives. Traditional but with quirky touches, it’s one of our favourite Sunday roast spots and a hit with locals too.

The Halsetown Inn is that rare gem – a proper country pub that serves up genuinely imaginative food. It’s all about seasonality and provenance here, and the pub has strong eco-credentials too. Visit for lunch or supper from Monday to Saturday, when you’ll find such delights as panko breaded fish goujons with apricot miso jam. Or tuck into a roast with all the trimmings from 12 to 3 on a Sunday. There’s a decent children’s menu too, as well as vegetarian and vegan options.

The Halsetown has all the charm of a traditional pub, with cosy nooks, open fires and an old Cornish range, and a few quirky touches here and there to give a fun twist. Relaxed and friendly, this is a pub at the heart of its community and it draws a loyal local crowd as well as visitors from further afield. The annual Halsetown Village Fete is held on the pub’s field and there are also regular pub quizzes, live music evenings and charity events.

The pub is not far from St Ives and local buses stop right outside – or there’s a walk from St Ives to Halsetown, which take about an hour, if you really want to work up an appetite for that roast.
