Southwestern Distillery, Nr Padstow
The original Cornish gin distiller behind Tarquin’s Cornish Gin has now launched a new exceptionally smooth sand filtered vodka, inspired by the beaches overlooked by the distillery on the wild north Cornish coast.

It’s hard to imagine now, but back in 2011, there were no Cornish gins. Armed with a copper still, a surf board and an idea to establish the first Cornish distillery for over 100 years, maverick self-taught master distiller Tarquin Leadbetter abandoned his desk job and set up Southwestern Distillery. In 2013, the first bottle of Tarquin’s Gin was sold, and Tarquin has now celebrated a decade of being at the forefront of craft distilling, combining traditional techniques with modern flavours to create unique award-winning gins.
Gin was followed by Twin Fin Rum – a family of exotic rums sourced across the Caribbean to be blended with an array of spices and fruits at the distillery on north Cornwall’s wild coast to craft truly unique rums worthy of any cocktail, and most recently Tarquin’s latest innovation, Connie Glaze Slow Sand Filtered Vodka. Using fine golden sand sourced from the Padstow estuary moments away from the distillery, this sand filteration gives the new Connie Glaze Cornish vodka an incredibly smooth finish. For every bottle sold, 1% is donated to Cornish Beach Guardians to protect and clean local beaches.
