St Ives School of Painting
St Ives continues to live up to its reputation as a magnet for creativity with the St Ives School of Painting’s innovative new programme of online (and soon in-person) art courses and workshops.
The St Ives School of Painting has taught artists for more than 80 years, with expert tuition provided from their iconic studios overlooking Porthmeor Beach. A mecca for artists since the 1880s, it was the generation of the mid 20th century – including Barbara Hepworth and Naum Gabo – who made this picturesque harbour town on the Cornish coast world famous.
Studio based courses start again 17th May and will run alongside a varied programme of online art courses enabling you to join in from all over the UK. Maybe you’re the next Ben Nicholson or Francis Bacon, Patrick Heron or Wilhelmina Barns-Graham (they all painted at the studio and their marks still grace the walls) before in-person classes return this summer, including plenty of ‘en plein air’ options (that’s painting outside). Alongside individual workshops, the school is also running longer courses for an enriching lifetime learning experience.
The newly-relaunched online Sunday family paintings workshops come to an end mid-April and a fortnightly online class for teenagers starts in May.
