Talland Bay Hotel, Looe
A stylish boutique hotel with artistic flair, boasting sea views from its cliff-top setting. The food and drink are top-notch, and canine guests are made very welcome too.
Perched on the cliffs at Porthallow between Looe and Polperro, the Talland Bay Hotel is just yards from the South West Coast Path and Talland Bay beach – a smugglers cove in years gone by.
It’s an ideal spot for exploring this unspoiled stretch of coastline – that’s if you can be tempted to stray further than the hotel’s own picturesque grounds, which stretch down to the ocean. A walk around the gardens reveals eccentric sculptures, secret footpaths and pretty walled gardens. Inside, there are 23 luxuriously-appointed rooms, including two garden suites. Each has been thoughtfully and individually styled, with an eclectic mix of hand-picked furnishings and art. Bathrooms are stocked with White Company toiletries and every bedroom has a flat-screen TV.
Gin-lovers will be delighted by the hotel bar, which offers more than 70 varieties, alongside a selection of whiskies, Cornish craft beers and jazzy cocktails. Perfect for a sundowner on the terrace, or in front of the fire, before heading to the restaurant to enjoy the award-winning fare. Head chef Nick Hawke trained with a Michelin-starred chef and leads a kitchen team dedicated to raising the culinary bar, while showcasing the finest regional produce.
The Talland Bay Hotel has also been named one of Cornwall’s most dog-friendly hotels, offering dedicated ‘Wallace & Gromit’ breaks and a conservatory brasserie where dogs can join their owners at dinner.
