Fizz, Films and Frolics: better than a night at the Oscars (probably)
I’m not sure those lovely chaps Stuart and Matt at The Plaza on Lemon St in Truro quite knew what hit them on Thursday as we staged a Muddy takeover of screen three for the Muddy Stilettos Awards Winners’ Party. ‘Er Lou, there’s some people with a palm tree in the foyer??‘ Everyone seemed to have a great time, enjoyed delicious fizz and nibbles, and made some new friends.
Nearly all the winning businesses made it to the party (for those of you who were off on glamorous buying trips, or cheering on children at Sport’s Day, we missed you!) we had a really fun couple of hours.
Photographer Hazel Mansell Greenwood was the official snapper and Enora from Muddy best wine store The Art of Wine in Truro was a brilliant sport and helped us with an unusual cloudy French fizz Helmoss (her favourite) and kept us all topped up. I wore my favourite zombie movie poster dress from local producer (non food) finalist Silly Old Sea Dog, a nod to the Plaza (for kindly hosting us), and in support of our fabulous local creatives.
Home made Cornish canapes: Cornish pasties, a puff pastry goats cheese tart, mini scones – jam first of course and you’ll be pleased to know, no infiltrators from across the Tamar, saffron cake, and first of the season strawberries. Oh yes, and some on brand stiletto cookies (sans mud). There was so much chatting, face scoffing and fizz quaffing, I almost forgot I had to actually do a bit of work and throw a speech together (it was terrible!). Anyway, the finalists were delightful and forgiving and really got stuck in.
Best props of the day I think had to go to the ladies from Trebah Garden who won best family attraction (they were responsible for the ‘palm tree’ in the foyer). Fantastic that one of our six gardens won – especially as there was no ‘garden’ category – perhaps next year. But we also had Boston shakers, Paintings, and soft furnishings amongst other things.
In case you missed it, here is the full list of ALL our wonderful winners. Please make sure you pay them a visit and use their services over the coming months. I know they’d be delighted to see you, and they are winners for a reason! That goes for all our finalists too, because there were some brilliant last minute tussles for first place and it was really gutting for some of them to have missed out by just a couple of votes in some cases. Show them your support by knocking on their doors!
So that’s it, the first Muddy Stilettos Cornwall Awards are over! Thanks to The Plaza Truro for letting us host the event in such a quirky setting, and to all our wonderful businesses who took part, and to the thousands of you who voted for them. It really has been a true testament to how much you value our wonderful independents by making the first Muddy Stilettos Cornwall Awards such a success.
I’m off now before I get all emotional. Hic!
