The famous unicorn derby is back with inflatable races across the pool, unicorn fancy dress and entertainment. Win swimming passes, cafe vouchers and more. All inflatables can take part but only unicorns can win in life! What’s more, for the second year running Jubilee Pool is one of a handful of recycling points in south west for inflatables.

EAT: Taste of Scilly, Isles of Scilly, 1 – 30 Sept
Foodies rejoice! There are a few food fests to dig into this month (literally). Kicking things off is Taste of Scilly, running throughout Sept, the festival celebrates the very best in local food, drink and produce from across the five inhabited islands. New for 2019, there’ll be Distillery Tours and Gin Schools (oh hello!) at the brand new Spirit Scilly distillery on St Mary’s (1 – 30 Sept).
CULTURE: Groundwork, various locations, until 30 Sept
Groundwork, a season of international contemporary art organised by the Helston-based CAST (Cornubian Arts and Science Trust), launches the final month of its programme with new exhibitions throughout September across the county. The shows have an emphasis on moving image, sound and performance with new commissions and acclaimed works by internationally celebrated artists (until 30 Sept).
EXHIBITION: Kurt Jackson: Frenchman’s Creek, Jackson Foundation, St Just-in-Penwith, until 22 Feb
Over in St Just-in-Penwith at the Jackson Foundation there’s a collection of contemporary artist Kurt Jackson’s work titled Frenchman’s Creek, a collection of paintings of the Helford River that famously inspired Daphne du Maurier’s 1941 novel of the same name.
HabourQ, Charlestown Harbour, Fri 5 July – beginning of Oct
Charlestown’s newest foodie hot-spot opens on Friday 5th July – serving up the best local produce cooked over fire, with an unrivalled setting on the historic Georgian harbour. The Smokin’ Harbour BBQ, HarbourQ, is the latest development from the team behind the popular steak and seafood restaurant, The Longstore. Chef Ben Ambridge’s menu offers melt-in-your-mouth BBQ flavours, including slow-cooked meat, fish and veggie specials – all served with pickles, homemade sauces, potato salad and flatbreads – freshly cooked in a new purpose-built smoker and grill. A communal outdoor seating area has been purpose built on the harbour, with an undercover canopy to protect guests from summer showers.

Magic in the Skies, Land’s End Landmark, every Tues and Thurs from 25 Jul – 31 Aug
Enjoy a thrilling cocktail of pyrotechnic wizardry that lasts all summer long, with vibrant explosions lighting up Land’s End every Tues and Thurs evening at dusk. Each of the twelve firework displays will transport you on a musical journey.
Story By The Sea – Restaurant Residency, Carbis Bay Estate, 2 Aug – 14 Sept
The entire team of Michelin-starred Restaurant Story will be moving to Carbis Bay for six weeks this summer, where they will launch an exclusive residency in a bid to help clean up the ocean. They will be launching a six-week residency in Carbis Bay titled Story by the Sea. Over the course of the pop-up they will work with creative ocean campaigners, Parley, to remove 50 metric tonnes of plastic from the oceans. Diners will enjoy a unique five or six-course menu inspired by the ocean, including the likes of Crab Tart, Lobster & Leek, and Lemon Sherbet. The five-course lunch menu is available for £95pp + service charge. The six-course dinner menu is available for £125pp + service charge.
