Coppa Load Of This Cupcake Course

I’ve let Muddy Intern Ruth Wills loose on the blog today, since she instigated this post! That will teach me to let her go on a shopping spree with my credit card pff.  So this is what she bought….

I’m in mourning. Bake Off has finished, and apparently will never be the same again (blub). So to cheer myself up, I enrolled the girls at Muddy HQ on the latest charity cupcake making course at Philleigh Way (you’ll remember them from their awesome wood-fired sessions – they also have a cookery school). Lou, well lets say, after seeing her ‘lemon meringue pie’ she needed this course, nuff said?

This is not to say I didn’t need this course myself, my decorating skills were more suited to walls than cupcakes. But I love cake, I love baking and it was for a cause close to me – Coppafeel. If you aren’t familiar with Coppafeel, its the boobtastic charity started by boob champion Kris Hallenga following her breast cancer diagnosis at the age of 23. Instead of getting angry she made it her mission to encourage young people everywhere to check their boobs.

cupcake-eatingThe day started the right way – with coffee and cake, naturally, made by Christine Hawker, Philleigh Way’s answer to Mary Berry (guarantee you’ll be begging her to adopt you – think of the cake!).

To the baking then! Gorgeous George (chef-co-owner of Philleigh) had helpfully weighed out everything for us. It was like being on a cookery show, none of the boring stuff like weighing and washing up, only the good stuff like baking and eating…

While we waited for the cakes to bake and cool, it was time for more tea and cake, and then a demo from Mary. Sorry I mean Christine. Since the event was in aid of Coppafeel, boobs were the theme of the day. Christine showed us how to make boob cupcakes, but it was a free for all and much hilarity ensued. Luckily all boobs are different, so I could pass off my poor decorating skills as natural variations and covered my mistakes with pretty little flowers.

Not too shabby huh? Okay, they aren’t the best but I had loads of fun making them. For those of you wondering how Lou got on… note, the ski lodge and bear, complete with snow, on the top right.

MUDDY VERDICT:

A fun relaxing day that went quicker than you can say Paul Hollywood! The best part? Meeting Kris and taking home 12 mega impressive cakes to scoff or share as you like. Philleigh Way are hosting lots of delicious courses in the run up to Christmas (and into next year), there’s one to suit everyone. Ps, they perfect Christmas presents!

£££: The course was £60, which for a full day learning baking and, er eating, is great value for money – and we got to take home the 12 cupcakes we made. Keep your eye out though as Philleigh have regular deals and discounts.

Good for: Those wanting to brush up on old skills and learn new techniques- like how to make cupcakes into boobs. Access is good, would suit teens to grannies!

Not for: Master bakers would probably prefer a more advanced course.
