The Pig at Harlyn Bay
Muddy fave The Pig at Harlyn Bay has been awarded best hotel with heart at the Tatler Travel Awards 2021, the only UK hotel on the list, praising owners Robin and Judy Hutson for their newest outpost to their “award-winning ‘restaurants with rooms’ concept [that] has completely changed the face of the British hotel scene”.
Carbis Bay TV studio
The Carbis Bay Hotel has launched a new television studio and is filming with world-renowned chef Raymond Blanc OBE. A joint venture between the hotel’s owners and Round World Studios, Carbis Bay Studio is a permanent television production space available for hire by television producers and other content creators. Round World Studios is initially working with Rock Oyster Media and filming has just been completed with Michelin-starred chef Raymond Blanc OBE for his new ITV cookery series featuring a new collection of simple, rustic recipes.
Lula Cornwall opens their new undercover shack bar – dine under lobster pot lights and warm yourself with the wood burner while looking out over the water.
Emily Scott Food, Watergate Bay
Good news for fans of Emily Scott Food’s summer pop-up at Watergate Bay’s previous Fifteen site. The pop-up came to an end in the autumn as the building is turned into luxury apartment suites but Emily is to return in March 2021 with a permanent site at Watergate Bay, in the old Watchful Mary waterside bar building. (You may recognise Emily as she is the director and exec chef at Michelin Bib Gourmand rated The St Tudy Inn, also named as one of the UK’s top 50 gastropubs back in January – which is now up for sale).
Tom Thumb, Newquay
Newquay based cocktail bar, Tom Thumb, has launched a range of bottled cocktails for delivery or take-away.
Cornish walks on TV
The Isles of Scilly, Land’s End, Helford, The Lizard and Padstow are all set to be locations for Julia Bradbury’s new TV show, filming the best walks the south west has to offer, as well as meeting the locals along the way.
From the team behind Swedish roadside diner/cafe Strong Adolfos at Hawksfield comes Island, for coffee and brunch, in Newquay. Opens 16 Dec, we will be heading over to check it out!
Christmas Dinners at The Rockpool
The Rockpool restaurant is launching a new at-home Christmas Dinner feast menu in partnership with the CPR Foodbank. The new menu offers a delicious Christmas Dinner from just £18 – and for every meal sold, The Rockpool’s donation will enable the CPR Foodbank to provide five meals to Cornwall’s most in-need families.
Dishes are restaurant quality, pre-cooked, packaged in sustainable Veg Ware and come complete with instructions – ready to heat up on the big day.
