War is over. It has changed the lives of everyone it has touched. The men are coming home but death is never far away. In 2014 WildWorks created a one day, outdoor landscape theatre event at The Lost Gardens of Heligan. 100: The Day Our World Changed focused on an unknowing generation walking into battle in 1914. 100: UnEarth looks at the devastating aftermath of conflict, telling the homecoming stories of those who fight and live through war.
Steel Magnolias, Sterts Theatre, Upton Cross, Tues 17 Jul
Sterts Theatre is marking the centenary this year of the first women being given the vote with a special all-gal production. The cast, director, stage manager, sound and crew of Steel Magnolias are all female. The 1980s play by Robert Harling was made famous by the film of the same name, starring Julia Roberts, Sally Field and Dolly Parton. It’s a touching and funny tale of a group of women who meet in a beauty parlour in Southern America and support each other through life’s ups and downs. A universal story of female friendship could just as easily be set in Liskeard as Louisiana!
The Fisherman’s Friends, Penlee Open Air Theatre, Penzance, Thur 19 Jul
The Fisherman’s Friends have been widely credited with starting the revival of interest in shanty-style choral singing but a cornerstone of their success has been their constantly evolving and expanding repertoire.
Miracle Theatre touring with Chekov’s Cherry Orchard, Healeys Cyder Farm, Fri 20 Jul and Car Marth Amphitheatre, Redruth, Sat 21 Jul
This summer Cornwall’s award-winning Miracle Theatre will set Chekhov’s classic comedy ablaze, skilfully treading the tightrope between tears and laughter with the story of a family facing ruin, as society teeters on the brink of cataclysmic change. Miracle’s outdoor productions have become a ‘must do’ activity and pop up in unexpected and extraordinary, places including gardens beaches, castles and clifftops. See my review

Recently honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Ards International Guitar Festival in Northern Ireland, Sarah’s also drawn critical praise for her voice (which has been variously likened to malt whiskey and melted chocolate) and her engaging rapport with audiences.
