Ice Skating at Eden, The Eden Project, Bodelva, Weds 23 Jan – 24 Feb

Eden’s glittering ice rink – the only indoor rink in Cornwall – is open until 24 Feb. The prices for general sessions are: £7 per adult (aged 16+), £6 per child, £24 per family (any combination of four people). Please note that a valid Eden admission ticket is required for all the sessions, in addition to the ticket for the relevant session.

 

Seasonal Feast, Knightor Winery, Trethurgy, Fri 25 Jan

Shrug off those winter blues and join the team at the winery for a delicious feast of seasonal specials. Knightor’s chefs have crafted a menu full of local delicacies and a unique spin on classic winter warmers, adding a healthy twist to the comforting recipes you know and love. Tickets are £20 per person and include nibbles followed by a 3 course feast.

 

Alternative Burns Night, Travellers Rest, Newquay, Fri 25 Jan

See the absolutely awesome James Dixon and The Sinking of the Good Ship Rosa at the Travellers Rest’s alternative Burns Night. As well as the address to the Haggis and a Scottish themed specials menu. If anything its an excuse to get out and shrug off those January blues!! Gong Sound Bath, Ekam Studio, Cambourne, Fri 25 Jan

Ali guides you to settle, relax and breathe into the space before setting your sankalpa (intention) for the session. Laying snug and supported in shavasana there is nothing more for you to do; just surrender into an ocean of sound, created by the majestic gong as well as singing bowls & elemental instruments. As we bathe in sound the brain waves entrain, moving towards states of consciousness such as deep relaxation, meditation and insight.

The Healing Light Festival, Heartlands, Redruth, Sat 26- Sun 27 Jan

A Cornish mind, body and spirit weekend at Heartlands. A showcase for Cornwall based complementary therapists, with readings, mediums, stalls and much more. Other highlights include free talks and workshops -music, face-painting and live music. The event supports Cornwall Wildlife Trust and Ravenswell, raising funds for a Wildlife Hospital in Cornwall. £2pp

 

Bikelights: Flying Circus, Wadebridge, Sat 26 Jan

Now in its fifth year, this community spectacle is set to be bigger and better than ever – with more than 700 bikes and a host of newly commissioned artists’ bikes on the theme of Flying Circus – featuring elephants, flying trapeze, fire sculptures and magnificent illuminated creations of all shapes and sizes. This is the most enormous fun, not only do you get to create brilliant illuminated bikes, but you also get to go on an unforgettable bike ride in the dark with your family, surrounded by the most enchanting glittering lights and laughter.

 

Plan Bee Art Exhibition, Eden Project, 26 Jan – 17 Mar 2019 (except 28-29 Jan)

Featuring work by Kurt Jackson, Wolfgang Buttress and Amy Shelton, this insightful exhibition of science and contemporary art presents new views on bees and other native pollinators: their vital role, their extraordinary lives, their plight and the story of our native dark honey bees (Apis mellifera mellifera) and the role they play. Plan Bee brings together a wide range of collaborators from many disciplines connected by their passion to save our pollinators. Free with Eden admission.

 

Pop-up Brunch with Mint Pods, Roo’s Beach, Sun 27 Jan

Roo’s Beach’s first Pop-Up Brunch of the year. Enjoy delicious sandwiches, cakes, Origin coffee and hot drinks from the Roo’s Beach Coffee Shop. Don’t miss your chance to try the delicious Flu Fighter juice, a zingy mix of Orange, Carrot, Pineapple, Ginger & Turmeric! This juice is packed with goodness to help you fight sniffles and to give your body a well deserved reboot for this new year! Seed Sunday Workshop, The Fish Factory, Penryn, Sun 27 Jan

Following the success of ‘In Our Hands’ The Fish Factory is hosting another food and land related event. Fred and Ronja from Vital Seeds will be holding a seed saving workshop (4-5.30pm) followed by a screening of ‘Seed – an untold story’ and a talk from seed saving experts (6.30-9.30pm). There will also be hot soup served from 6pm and the Fish Factory Cafe will be open for drinks and snacks!

The multi award-winning musical from the Royal Shakespeare Company arrives in Devon this month and, if the hype is to be believed, it’s one not to miss.  The story, inspired by Roald Dahl’s much-loved book, is that of a little girl who, armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her own destiny. Book it, pronto!
