Manor House Campsite: Trewan Hall
Pitch up this summer at a very special campsite that’s perfect for children, and a short hop to north Cornwall’s beaches.
When it comes to campsites in Cornwall, there’s a lot to choose from but this one, with its rambling grounds and old-fashioned, family friendly atmosphere is one of a kind.
Trewan Hall is a restored, 17-century manor house and country estate, four miles from the north coast of Cornwall. Just outside St. Columb Major and perfectly positioned between Padstow and Newquay, the stunning 36-acre grounds include natural woodland and beautifully kept gardens as well as two grassy camping fields.
A haven for wildlife, the site holds a Gold David Bellamy conservation award for its restoration of the land and natural environment.
Caravans and motorhomes are welcome but canvas campers dominate and you are welcome to pitch up wherever takes your fancy (within reason). Ideal for families – and dog friendly too – there is a 25 metre, supervised, heated pool, woodland playground for little ones and well stocked camp shop with all the essentials (hot pasties all day, obvs).
The extensive grounds are perfect for impromptu games of football or rounders and Trewan Hall even has its own small theatre in a converted barn, where campers can catch local musicians and other entertainers of an evening during high season.
The market town of St. Columb Major is within walking distance, where you’ll find several pubs and a couple of fish and chip shops, along with the usual local amenities.
For those who like a little more luxury, Trewan Hall also has two, recently refurbished holiday cottages in the grounds.
