12 Things To Do This Week in Cornwall

I have a particularly full and fabulous What’s On Guide for you this week, complete with flowers, fashion and feasting. And remember, Cornwall’s best foodie nights sell out fast, so book right now to avoid disappointment. Race you!

See the Magnolias in The Great Gardens of Cornwall

‘The moment Cornish magnolias flower, spring has arrived in England,’ (declared this year on the 28 Feb). Spring seems to reach Cornwall a little earlier than the rest of the country (no don’t look outside, just trust me!) and the magnolias are the very first sign. Champion trees at Trebah, Trewidden, Caerhays, Heligan, Trgothnan and Trewithan burst into flower within days of each other and you must get out and see this beautiful spectacle while you can. You may need to bring your waterproofs but it’ll be well worth the effort! The release of a new book by Tim Hubbard, coincides with the occasion, telling the story of the Great Gardens, the people and their plants.

Woodburner Session with Hollie Rogers, Lusty Glaze, Fri 10 Mar

Is it me or do all the coolest things seem to come from Penzance these days? Case in point is alt-folk singer Hollie Rogers (PZ is her hometown), a songwriter and guitarist, with an incredibly powerful voice that’s been compared to Joni Mitchell and Carole King. The rising star has had plenty airplay on BBC introducing radio and has supported Susanne Vega and Paolo Nutino. See her at Lusty Glaze this Friday in one of the last Woodburner Sessions of the year. Entry is free but it’s a good idea to get your table booked if you want to eat.
