Muddy Tries New IonActive Facial

Its been an age since I caught up with Muddy award winning beauty salon Claire at Banburys in Launceston (blame island hoping, face stuffing and general slovenliness) and I heard a rumour that they were about to launch a new immediate results customisable facial – a countywide first no less! What what what? Well, the science bit goes like this: the  Dermatologica (thumbs up, great brand) IonActive facial combines ultrasound technology and gelloid massaging to address skin’s luminosity, smoothness and hydration levels. Ohh! I was more than happy to be play guinea pig for this one.

On Madford Lane, Banburys can be easy to miss since its not in the town square, but I like that its central, with onroad parking right outside – super convenient for making a quick get away and less chance of bump into someone you know. Like from the PTA. If you’ve not been before, its a bright modern salon with lots of luxe touches, like a private shower between treatment rooms, and this pedicure banquet.

Back to the pampering. It was time for me to hop up on the couch for my 45 minute treatment. Like all Dermatologica facials, we began with Face Mapping, which is a sort of skin shaming analysis of your skin. Close up. Paula was gentle on me though and focused just as much on my bad bits (yeah I’m talking to you saggy neck skin) as my  girlishly plump rosy cheeks (oh thanks for saying so!).

My biggest concerns were some scaring (damn teen acne) and fine lines which she swore were down to dehydration rather than full on wrinkles – at the moment – and Paula identified the retino IonActive as best to specifically address my skin quality issues.

Be warned – this is not a fluffy relaxation treatment (though it actually was), more of a functional facial that targets particular areas. Not your typical facial, the IonActive System is touted as the facial for those of us that want to achieve advanced results.

First my make up was removed (shouldn’t have bothered going out in a full face this morning, but, you know, playground drop off n all that) – a double cleanse with Dermatologica PreCleanse followed by a special swarfega like cleansing gel to remove everything.

Next it was time to exfoliate with Dermatologica multivitamin thermafoliant, instantly warm and a bit tingly. Then the retrinol ino active was applied and worked in with some techno science kit that helped my skin absorb the treatment deeper.

Last a hybrid gellloid massage/ mask was applied – worked in using traditional massage tecnhiques, then left to do its magic.

Even though its an active regime, its still more relaxing that half an hour with the kids and just as I was about to nod off (I’ve learned to grab sleep when I can), my face was washed with hot flannels, spritzed with toner, and a lighter moisturiser and SPF applied, and I was gently packed on my way.

No time to snooze really, there’s little downtime and at 45 minutes you can treat yourself to a facial in your lunch break. I was really pleased with the results – an immediate ba-zing back in my complexion. As the day wore on (and over the next few days), my skin looked genuinely healthier and there was a difference to the fine lines Paula had kindly pointed out.

I would most certainly have this treatment again – though a course of three to six is recommended, I saw actual results after one.

£££: This is a premium facial. At around £25 more than a regular Dermatologica facial, you get a bespoke facial with a highly sensorial (is that a word?) experience and immediate results. Well worth it.

Good for: Pretty much anyone who is used to having regular skin treatments and facials. Because the treatments can be personalised, you can get a bespoke facial,

Not for: Teens, hyper-reactive skin, if you haven’t had a salon treatment for a while. Lauren and Claire recommend their Teen spa package, or a regular Dermatologica prescription facial first.

Dare to disagree? The IonActive facial will be launched at Launceston’s late night shopping night on Fri 2 Dec where there will also be lots of chrimbo gift packs and other stocking filler lovelies to buy. Try it for yourself and see what all the fuss is about.
