what’s on guide: Thurs 11 – Wed 17 August

It’s all about the ocean this week! Regattas, gig racing, surfing, plus the landlubbing sons of surfing – skateboarding and bmxing. There’s music food and dancing too, plus our regular calendar of daily events (full calendar for the weeks ahead HERE), ably put together by Muddy intern Ruth Wills – here she is getting ready for Boardmasters – see you in the surf dudes!

Boardmasters, Fistral Beach Newquay, Thurs 10 – Sun 14 Aug

The south-west’s answer to V with surfing – Chase and Status,  James Bay, the Kaisers, Primal Scream, Deadmaus5 (ask your kids, I had to) – do I need to go on? Five days of fun in the sun (fingers crossed) and the world surf champs, skate and bmx competitions (the landlubbing son of surfing), sundowner beach gigs, the house of Marley (an area dedicated to the music of Bob) and after parties. VIP bar with exclusive bands and DJ’s and the chance to do a bit of sleb-spotting (allegedly).  The net loft – an intimate new stage that will showcase latest in new Cornish talent curated in partnership with BBC Music Introducing, a surf village for all your must have surf gear needs, and surfing lessons from the pros.

Tickets still available for Friday and Sunday – but don’t leave it too long, or your’ll be sad when they sell out Boardmasters 2016 @boardmasters

 

Fowey Royal Regatta, Sun 14 – Sat 20 Aug

Like your weeks pack full of Star dust and memories? That’s what the folk at Fowey Royal Regatta have on order. People flock from all over Cornwall and further afield for the fun, and with a week packed full of events, its easy to see why. There’s a carnival, fireworks, the flora dance, gig racing, the Troys (ask a local) live music, pasty eating, a raft race and a crabbing competition to name but a few!

Make sure you pop on down to Fowey and experience it for yourself it’s on for a week so there’s no excuse!

Get Active Truro Mon 15 – Fri 19 Aug

One too many icecreams this holiday? Burn it off with Get Active Truro. This five day event highlkights what’s on offer sport wise – an ideal opportunity for the whole family to take the plunge and try out a sport you’ve always fancied having a go at. ‘Get Active Truro’ promises something for everyone and you don’t need to be super sporty to join in; it is about getting active but also having fun… and all the events are free! Make sure to use the hashtag #getactivetruro

Each day is themed to promote a different sport.

Monday 15th – ‘Get Outdoors’ Walking, golf and the return of the climbing wall.

Tuesday 16th – ‘Dance & Fitness’ with dance groups West Coast Cheer, Dance with Us Two, Embrace Dance Fitness and 4funxsake Youth Dance

Wednesday 17th ‘#thisgirlcan campaign’ ‘Sport England’s national #thisgirlcan campaign’

Thursday 18th – ‘Wheels Day’ Get on your bike on board with Mount Hawke Skate, Truro Cycling Club Aggie Cycles and Andrei Burton and his team.

Friday 18th – ‘End of Term Business Sport’s Day’ Businesses of Truro will compete in traditional games including ‘egg-and-spoon’ and the three legged race! To enter a team email [email protected]

Dinosaur Uprising, Eden Project Bodelva, until September

Possibly the biggest prehistoric invasion since jurrasic times yet! If your mudlet is dinocrazy, a visit to the Eden Project this summer is a must. The whole park is taken over by incredible creatures from land, sea and air. Get ready to uncover fascinating facts about land-roaming giants, monsters from the deep and ancient creatures of the skies. There will be some relaxed sessions for children with autism spectrum condition, sensory and communication needs or learning disabilities who may benefit from a more informal experience – check the website for details.

Pirates Quest, Newquay until September

5 Kids love the chance to dress up and join their Pirate Captain for a tour at Pirate’s Quest, Newquay, CornwallPirates Quest is back! Yo ho ho me hearties. Me and the mudlets reviewed the new story at half term (here) and believe me – its swashbuckling fun.

Use your treasure map to find the clues to lead you to the Captain’s secret stash of chocolate. Suitable for all ages, the scare-factor will be tailored to your group.

Massage in the Med, Eden Project Mon – Sat until September

Knottier than a spaghetti western? While they run riot in the making shed, treat yourself to 15 minutes of me time in the Mediterranean Biome. No need to get naked either – treatments are carried out over clothing to combinations of back neck shoulders arms and hands and head and face. Bliss. And a mini recharge Book me in for an hour (or two).

1-4pm £15 for a 15 minute session.
