Aren’t we lovely?
Family photo shoots for people who don't like having their picture taken. The Muddy clan gets papped by the fabulous Suzanne Johnson...
You’ll rarely see a selfie on my Instagram feed. I take them occasionally, then groan at my tired-looking mug and instantly delete. On the other hand, I’ve got hundreds of amateur snaps of the mudlets and quite a lot of them with their Dad — but we are in danger of them leaving home with little evidence of me in their childhood at all.
I do not like having my picture taken and posed family portraits – if we could even achieve such a thing – just look so old fashioned. So when Suzanne Johnson, who specialises in photographing folk like me, got in touch to tell me about her family photo shoots with a difference, I bit the bullet.
Naturally, on the day our youngest was in no mood to be on the beach and both had that half-crazed hunger they get after school. But somehow Suzanne managed to get some great shots in between tantrums and emergency cheese dippers. And the lucky grandparents are all getting them for Christmas!
Suzanne spent an hour with us, mostly gassing about kids and Cornwall, then occasionally slinking off to take documentary style pictures of us paddling and playing with the kids. She obviously spends lots of time with children, because she knew just how to get them animated and totally talked to them on their level. It was really just like hanging out with a friend.
I also thought I’d feel really self conscious about someone following us with a camera but nobody much noticed because of how relaxed the whole thing was. Suzanne just seemed to be part of our gang.
An hour-long session with Suzanne at a Cornish location of your choice, costs £95 and comes with two 9×6″ mounted Fujicolour prints, five high res downloads and an online gallery, so you can browse and buy more if you wish.
For an even more affordable option, look out for Suzanne’s mini sessions at special locations, such as Gylly Beach and Kennall Vale, advertised on her Facebook page. These cost £49 and last 30 minutes.
Suzanne also offers gift vouchers for people to give as presents – perfect for a family with a new arrival – and sessions for people on holiday to catch some relaxed family memories.
