Alex English and Tania Tay set up Booklovers Retreats for busy book lovers who dream of a short break to relax and read. Writer friends and published authors, they themselves met 12 years ago on a writing retreat. While learning their craft, they’ve enjoyed attending many residential writing retreats and realised there’s nothing like the experience of being away with a group of like-minded people who love stories. Together, inspired by the idea of how lovely it would be for people to get together to read, and to not have to worry about the laundry, cooking or kids, and enjoy a blissful short break in luxurious surroundings, with the most delicious food and drink provided, they came up with the idea of Bookloves Retreats.

The theme for the next retreat in Padstow in May 2025 is cosy crime but you can read any books you bring along. Relax and read in the atmospheric setting of the 18^th Century mill, surrounded by stunning art and luxurious comfort. All guests have a double bedroom and private or ensuite bathroom to themselves. You can ask for double occupancy and come with a partner, family member or friend.

Shared meal times are integral to the retreat experience, and guests will gather together at lunch and dinner, to chat with fellow book lovers and meet the guest authors. Leith’s trained chef Ali Pumfrey will provide indulgent yet healthy meals, showcasing seasonal Cornish produce. There’ll be cocktail hour before dinner, and guests can relax knowing that the retreat is fully catered.

Alex English is a popular picture book and middle grade children’s author (Sky Pirates, Yuck Said The Yak). Before Tania Tay was published (The Other Woman, Spellcasters series) she organised the writers’ retreat and other networking events for the Society of Children’s Book Writer and Illustrators.
