The Old Coastguard, Mousehole

A fabulous pub and restaurant with rooms with glorious sea views over St Clements Isle and Mounts Bay towards St Michael’s Mount.

The Old Coastguard overlooks Mounts Bay in the fishing village of Mousehole. Dog and child friendly, choose from one of fourteen bedrooms, almost all of which look out over the water towards St Michael’s Mount and the Lizard, or book breakfast, lunch or dinner as a non-resident.

The tropical garden at The Old Coastguard has incredible views with its glass barrier giving uninterrupted views of St Clements Isle. In good weather there can be nowhere else like it. In bad weather sit indoors from the lower deck and enjoy some storm watching.

The terrace, under the Top Leaper statue, is a wonderful place for sundowners, and The Crab Shack is a super-informal foodie delight, open daily (unless the weather is truly awful) from 10am until late, until the end of October plus one-offs, like the switch on of the famous Mousehole lights or Tom Bawcock’s Eve in December.

Dinner is served in the dining room and bar, a traditional brasserie style menu with a strong emphasis on fish due to the proximity to Newlyn. The menu changes according to season and catch of the day. Around 25 wines and sherries are listed by the glass, priced for locals not tourists, and The Old Coastguard was the overall winner in the IWC 2019 Restaurant Wine List of the Year awards.

Pro tip – if you arrive on the sleeper train from London, breakfast is served at The Old Coastguard free of charge to set you up for your trip.

The Old Coastguard also hosts regular art exhibitions showcasing the work of local artists; A Trio of Printmakers launches 1 April.
