Spring in a Box
Roses schmoses! Make someone's day with a box of sunshine from the flower fields of the Isles of Scilly.
It’s mid February and right on cue, we’re all getting fed up with winter. No amount of red, cellophane-wrapped roses can distract us from the mizzliness of it all.
But the flowers that do feel like little beacons of hope at this time of year are daffodils and narcissi. My mother-in-law always buys a bunch to cheer herself up after packing away the Christmas decorations and we’re lucky to have great swaying fields of them all over Cornwall.
At Churchtown Farm on St Martins in the Isles of Scilly, scented narcissi have been growing for 70 years. They now send them, packaged in beautiful eco-friendly boxes – all over the UK right through the year.
Not only are they cheerful and beautifully fragrant, they are really affordable too. You can send 60 stems for £22 and if you want a vase in every room in the house, send 100 for £29. They might just see us through till spring.
