In her novel, Nancy and Charlie Cornish are happily married and live in Padstow. Nancy works in a cafe and Charlie’s a DS in the Truro Police. But Nancy has an extraordinary gift. Charlie is disbelieving of the gift, until Nancy uses it to help him solve an important case.

What’s your favourite place in Cornwall?

It’s so hard to pick just one place, but if pushed, it would be my local beach – Mawgan Porth (below) on the Atlantic coast. One of my books is set there, hopefully out later in the year.

What’s your writing set up like – where do you do your work?

I tend to write in bed. Or on the bed, should I say. I find it’s not so harsh on my back when I’m propped up with pillows. It hasn’t changed with lockdown, as I don’t have to go out to work.

Why do you think people love any kind of Cornish connection – what is it about Cornwall that is so special / engaging?

People tend to come here for the beaches and jaw dropping scenery. Also, maybe it’s the childhood memories that makes it so special. Many people come on holiday as kids and then want to revisit as adults. I know I did. But for me, it’s my spiritual home. In the days before Covid, when we’d been away, my soul would give a sigh of contentment as soon as we crossed the border back into Cornwall.

Where do you recommend people head if it’s the first time they’re coming to Cornwall?

Again, a tricky one. But anywhere on the Atlantic coast between Tintagel and St Ives. The coastline is so wild and beautiful, with lots of places of interest to explore.

Why did you choose to set the novel in Cornwall? Do you think Cornwall becomes almost an additional character?

Since I moved here nearly eight years ago, my inspiration is taken from the Atlantic coast. Because as I said, Cornwall is my spiritual home, all the books within that time are set here. And yes, Cornwall is an additional character. My main characters all love their home, and wouldn’t be who they are without Cornwall.
