My fave places: Becca Mably, Highcliffe Cornwall

Becca Mably grew up at the family-owned Highcliffe Cornwall before working in the music industry. Now back in the Duchy and at the helm alongside Dad, Rob, she shares her favourite places.

Zennor

There is something magic about the rawness of Zennor. Rugged moors filled with wild ponies, to a backdrop of rocky cliffs and the surging ocean behind. One of my favourite walks loops back to the Tinners Arms, a cracking little pub that gives the feeling of a warm hug when you arrive. We’ve sheltered from many a storm in there!

Pentire

Polzeath Beach Cornwall UK

My grandparents house had the most incredible view towards Pentire and Newlands (the large rock out in the sea). To us, it was always known as ‘Granny’s Island’ as it would sit slap bang in the middle of her kitchen window. The walk around Pentire grants a much closer look of the island, as well as a view across Polzeath to their house. I love that feeling, it reminds me of our dear Granny Betty!

Greenaway Beach

Greenaway – (above) on the coastpath just near Highcliffe – will always be one of my favourite spots, filled with nostalgia of growing up here. Back then, Greenaway was the sort of place we could turn up to on a sunny day and know that all of our family friends would have the same idea. We’d spend afternoons rock pooling and jumping off Toad rock and as the days turned into nights, we’d spark up the BBQ and watch the sun set in the distance. After a long hot day, we would clamber back up the steps, exhausted, hearts full and collapse into bed, ready to do it all over again.

St Kew Inn

Again, another old school favourite and one that we’ve been coming to since we were born is St Kew Inn. Firstly, the food – not your average pub grub, yet not at all pretentious. Locally sourced, seasonal and delicious! It’s a place that works in all seasons… hunkering down by the open fire feasting on something hearty, or sitting in the garden during a hot summers day, sipping on a fresh cold beer as they day begins to cool. It’s an absolute gem.

Newlyn

Newlyn Harbour in the dusk Cornwall

Newlyn is probably our go to place for weekend mooching. Everything is independent here, with not a chain in sight – Mackerel Sky: a low key lunch spot, Lovetts natural wine bar and coffee shop and Argoe: a cedar-clad cabin within the historic harbour serving simple fresh fish cooked over fire. The food scene here is brilliant!

Tremenheere-Mounts-Bay

There is a real art connection here too: the Newlyn Art Gallery and Jupiter Gallery are always worth a visit and I love Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens (above)- the ‘Skyspace’ by James Turrell is exquisite!
