<p>Megan Freeman loves all things magic and mythology. She juggles writing with her day job, working for a children’s mental health charity, promoting wellbeing through surf therapy. Her YA fantasy debut,<em> A Better Nightmare</em>, a dark and spectacular contemporary fantasy full of heart racing twists and turns, as a courageous group of teenagers fight for their right to exist and embrace their unique powers is published this month. </p>



<p>We caught up with Megan to find out her favourite places in Cornwall.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-lamorna-cove">Lamorna Cove</h2>

<p>I grew up here, living on a clifftop farm and working in the cove café every summer as a teenager. Famed for its once thriving art scene, the cove is set at the end of a winding, lush valley and surrounded by rugged Cornish cliffs. Although now past its glory days, when the sun is shining there’s nowhere I’d rather be than stretched out on the pier sunbathing after a swim in its turquoise waters.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-cape-cornwall">Cape Cornwall</h2>

<p>Cape Cornwall is where we used to go as kids on rainy days. It’s amazing for rock pooling and there’s a little pool that you can take a dip in. The surrounding valleys of Kenidjack and Cot Valley are also well worth an explore – stunning in the spring when the wildflowers are growing and with winding rivers that lead to pebbled beaches.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-tremenheere-sculpture-garden">Tremenheere Sculpture Garden</h2>

<p>We got married here in the pagoda at the top of the gardens with views of St Michael’s Mount and the ocean beyond. There’s a café here too which is our favourite place to eat breakfast.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-madron-sacred-well-and-chapel">Madron Sacred Well and Chapel</h2>

<p>Set within gnarled woodland, this is a special, ancient place. The well is said to have healing powers and even today the trees are adorned with strips of cloth and ribbons that represent wishes for health and healing. The old chapel is equally as magical, nothing but the walls left and held perfectly in nature’s grip.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-isles-of-scilly">Isles of Scilly</h2>

<p>I love every island on the Isles of Scilly for different reasons but there really isn’t another place like this on earth. Get the Scillonian ferry over – fondly known by locals as ‘The Vomit Comet’ for obvious reasons – and camp on Bryher, St Martins or St Agnes to experience the tranquility of the islands once the day trippers go home.</p>
