I’m completely in awe of the strength and endurance of both of you &#8211; I can barely comprehend the awfulness of being evicted from your home and those awful people who did that to you. Neither can I comprehend the judge who wouldn’t allow you to prove your innocence &#8211; are we really living in a just society? 
Your journey fascinated me &#8211; I felt that I was with you on every step of the way experiencing everything that you did and suffering the same pains and aches of your endurance. Fantastic that you took that step and ventured out into the wild unknowns &#8211; brilliant! I can’t commend you enough well done much love to you both

I read The Salt Path last summer (2019) whilst on holiday in Cornwall, where we go every year. We had a week in Mullion Cove followed by a week in Polruan where we stay, on West Street, a stones throw from the Block House, in the same cottage every year, as it&#8217;s right on the water. Even after I finished The Salt Path, I carried it around with me for the rest of the holiday, just in case I bumped into Raynor. I have just finished The Wild Silence. So lovely to know you have land again and I wish Raynor and Moth many more years of happiness. Maybe I&#8217;ll bump into you in Polruan one summer.

Raynor Winn and her husband, Moth, turned to the South West Coast Path to find a way through homelessness, and ultimately to find themselves &#8211; after the duel heartbreak of losing everything as Moth was diagnosed with a brain disease, for which there was neither cure nor treatment.



Raynor documented every step of the walk as a gift for Moth, which was subsequently published as her 2018 bestselling and award winning memoir, The Salt Path, which was followed in 2020 by The Wild Silence which picked up their story &#8211; in which the publishing of The Salt Path led to another offer &#8211; a farm in need of tending and re-wilding.

Two years on, Raynor is back with another journey, and another book &#8211; Landlines &#8211; which was published this week, charting their most ambitious journey yet; a 1000 mile walk from the north-west of Scotland back to the south-west coast path.



It seemed fitting to re-visit Raynor&#8217;s sharing of some of her favourite places in Cornwall.



Brown Willy

The highest point in Cornwall, Brown Willy is a rocky outcrop on Bodmin Moor – the point where the whole of the county stretches out beneath you, where rivers begin and the horizon is endless.



Land’s End

Not the uninspiring concrete building, but south of there, on the blocky granite cliffs at the very edge of the land – stand with your face in the wind, the land behind you and ahead only weather systems barrelling in from the Atlantic – take a deep breath of freedom.



Lansallos Beach

West of Polperro, a small beach accessed from a National Trust car park and a footpath across the fields, where a turquoise sea laps into a hidden cove of rocks and rockpools.

In Porthallow, just up the road from the half way marker for the South West Coast Path, Fat Apples is the perfect stop on your walk – an oasis of gorgeous food, hospitality and wild camping.



The Rumps

On the Pentire headland north of Polzeath, this wild headland of rock, short wind burnt grass and rabbits, the site of an iron age hill fort where the coast stretches out from east to west must surely be the real home of King Arthur and from its highest point the perfect spot to catch a late summer sunset.
