<p>Her eponymous restaurant overlooks the beach at Watergate Bay and she&#8217;s cooked for Joe Biden and Stanley Tucci. We caught up with Emily Scott, chef and two-times author, to get the lowdown on her inspirations, career highlights and which kitchen gadgets she can’t live without.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-your-first-job-in-a-kitchen">Your first job in a kitchen?&nbsp;</h2>



<p>I always cooked with my mother from an early age. I love all the processes of kneading, peeling, podding, whisking, chopping, melting, stirring, beating and icing.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What is your career highlight?&nbsp;</h2>



<p>Cooking for the G7 world leaders&nbsp;and in particular&nbsp;spending some time chatting with Joe Biden POTUS. (Cornwall hosted the G7 in 2021 and Emily cooked for them at the Eden Project).</p>

<p>Getting the call from the cabinet office that I had got the job!&nbsp;</p>

<p>Aside from the leaders of the western world (!), Alan Titchmarsh (his 40th birthday random) and of course, Stanley Tucci (below).</p>

<p>Underestimating myself.</p>

<p>Whipsiderry&nbsp;Beach. A beautiful beach in between Newquay and Watergate Bay, access is only my steep&nbsp;steps and always go when the tide is rolling out. A magical place.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>I&#8217;m very lucky to work with some great fish suppliers in Cornwall including Just Shellfish, Port Isaac and The Cornish Fishmonger.&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Favourite things to eat when you’re on holiday?&nbsp;</h2>



<p>Seasonal produce from the market and local fish/ seafood.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What mistake do inexperienced cooks tend to make?&nbsp;</h2>



<p>Overcomplicate&nbsp;things.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Favourite ingredient and why?&nbsp;</h2>



<p>Saffron &#8211; such a clever ingredient and can be used in savory or sweet dishes.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Most overrated ingredient?&nbsp;</h2>



<p>Truffle oil (overpowering and never tastes really of truffles).</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The dish you’re most proud of creating?&nbsp;</h2>



<p>My Great British Menu debut when I served 4 courses (Emily was on <a href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/49Y4061prz787SMVW935K5G/emily-scott" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">series 14</a> in 2019) and of course, also the immense pressure also bringing G7 menu together.</p>

<ul><li>Bechamel sauce &#8211; it can be used for so many dishes</li><li>Puttanesca &#8211; it is a wonderful dish that feeds a crowd</li><li>Beurre Blanc &#8211; so versatile.</li></ul>
