<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-what-where">WHAT? WHERE?</h2>



<p>Carbis Bay Estate is a seriously luxe coastal hotel, <a href="https://www.carbisbayhotel.co.uk/spa">spa</a>, and estate set on almost a mile of privately owned sandy Blue Flag beach on Cornwall’s north coast at <a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/best-places-to-live/cornwall/carbis-bay/">Carbis Bay</a>, near to St Ives. The family-owned estate quickly gained popularity among Victorian travellers, who arrived by rail, and it has attracted the well-heeled ever since, hosting the G7 in 2021 and won Best Hotel in the Muddy Awards 2024. Visitors can, and do, still arrive by train &#8211; it is just a short walk down the hill from the station.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-lowdown">THE LOWDOWN</h2>



<p>Built at the end of the 19th century by renowned Cornish architect, Silvanus Trevail, the original art-deco style white walled Main House is only part of the 125 acre estate, which now includes lodges, restaurants and more. It is also home to the C Bay Spa, Bamford&#8217;s first, and only, spa partner in the Cornwall. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-vibe">THE VIBE</h2>



<p>Exclusive and luxe, The Bamford aesthetic is green and simple, and this is reflected in the rosemary used as decor, and the huge glass windows framing the view. Inside are the candlelit treatment rooms, yoga studio and the Belvedere bar, plus sea view mani/pedi stations, and fire-side relaxation rooms. </p>



<p>Outside is the sundeck with loungers (and, right now, also beautifully decorated for the festive season with a simply lit Christmas tree) by the year-rounded heated pool. Once darkness falls the pool lights come on. There’s also an even hotter hydro pool and up the terraced garden a little is the cabin sauna with sea views. Very peaceful it is too, watching the seals in the bay and the light fading from the sky from the sauna warmth. </p>

<p>All guests staying at the Carbis Bay Estate have full use of the Spa facilities, as do those visiting for a treatment, or spending the day enjoying a <a href="https://www.carbisbayhotel.co.uk/spa/packages">spa day and package.</a> The latter are perfect for locals or those celebrating hen dos, birthdays, pre-wedding pampering and more. On offer at the moment is the <a href="https://www.carbisbayhotel.co.uk/offers-and-breaks/autumn-pick-mix-re-charge-2024">Autumn Pick &amp; Mix Re-Charge 2024</a> where for £115 per person you have the choice of two 30-minute treatments with a complimentary glass of bubbles, plus use of the facilities. </p>

<p>Last time I visited I had a Bamford massage, which was divine. This time, I opted for a facial, where my therapist used seaweed based Voya products to deliver a rejuvenating experience. After a palette cleansing bespoke ice lolly, I was ready to face the world again. </p>



<p>Also on offer, although I didn’t manage to try one, are yoga classes for both guests &amp; members, in the ocean view yoga studio, and there’s a gym / fitness suite if that’s your kind of fun. I preferred to swim and sauna but there were passionate gym bunnies making use of the state of the art machines. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-scoff-amp-quaff">SCOFF &amp; QUAFF</h2>



<p>There are a number of restaurants on the estate with the Belvedere Bar in the spa itself offering a light menu for lunch and dinner of Poki bowls and smoothies, as well as drinks and, considering it is a spa, an extensive cocktail list with alcoholic and sober cocktails on offer. </p>

<p>The swim and dine packages are with the Beach Club or Orangery Restaurant, but outside of these packages you could also choose lunch or dinner at fine dining Ugly Butterfly, or more a la carte in the vibey restaurant and cocktail bar, Walters on the Beach. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-muddy-verdict">THE MUDDY VERDICT</h2>



<p>Such a lovely place for a day off! While the spa facility options are not endless (there is really only sauna, hydro pool and the outdoor pool) they are well thought through and very enjoyable and peaceful, and the outside-only vibe of the facilities feels like you&#8217;re doing something positive healthwise. Being set into a hill side, the terraced garden offers a variety of views and even when busy, it still feels luxe. Inside, the candlelit and fire-side rooms are cocoon-like and the treatments excellent, delivered by experienced therapists who really know what they are doing.</p>



<p><strong>Good for:</strong> Eco-conscious luxe-seeking locals and visitors who want some time out, in an almost kid-free environment (kids staying at the hotel can only use the pool in allocated time slots, first thing in the morning, and just before tea, and can have a mini-manicure, mini-pedicure or mini-facial, but there are no tots running around all day).</p>



<p><strong>Not for:</strong> Luxe doesn&#8217;t come cheap, so it&#8217;s not the most wallet-friendly option out there, but it feels good value. Everything is beautifully done; a towel, robe, and slippers are included, and there are lovely changing rooms where the showers are hot, Bamford toiletries are available, the hair dryers swanky, and the lockers actually work! </p>
