Jubilee Pool, Penzance

For over 90 years the beautiful art deco lido on Penzance’s seafront has been celebrating community swimming, and is now a licensed wedding venue alongside the salt water and geothermal pool.

First opened in 1935, Penzance’s Jubilee Pool is the UK’s largest remaining example of an art deco lido. Holding around 5 million litres of sea water that can be refilled at high tide, it is the first salt water lido to have a geothermally heated pool and a sauna alongside the cold sea water pool. Sheltered from the waves by high white walls, the lifeguarded cold pool is usually a couple of degrees warmer than the sea outside the walls; the salt water geothermal pool is heated to around 28 – 30C.

Freshwater showers and art deco al fresco changing rooms are poolside, with a café on the top entrance level. A buzzing timetable includes Aqua Fit classes in the geothermal pool, and baby and toddler swim lessons in the Summer. The inflatable course is for strong swimmers aged 8+ in the school holidays and there’s plenty of events and one-offs – like the annual dog day at the end of the season, as well as visits from the mermaids, and monthly aquathons over the summer (keep an eye on our what’s on guides).

Look out for local discounts for PZ residents along with day passes where access to both pools is included plus a stripy deckchair to borrow for the afternoon, and a voucher to use at the café. Jubilee Pool now has a wedding licence, allowing unforgettable moments for ceremonies of up to 35 guests and evening receptions up to 100 guests, all with the stylish white art deco pool and sparkling sea behind as a backdrop. The Pool can also be hired out for private functions and special events.
