The Old Quay House, Fowey

This whitewashed Victorian building once a refuge for sailors is now a luxury boutique hotel with restaurant in the heart of Fowey.

The Old Quay House Hotel is a boutique hotel home to 13 luxurious bedrooms offering a modern-day bolthole away from the stresses of daily life. The carefully decorated rooms – and charming outdoor deck – have a unique view of the estuary, looking over the quay towards Polruan. Step outside the front door and you’re right on Fowey’s bustling Fore Street, rich with cafés, boutiques and galleries.

The waterside restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating is open to residents and non-residents, serving beautiful fresh seafood and local produce under the care of head chef Richard Massey every evening for dinner from 6pm to 8pm, as well as Sunday lunch.

Culturally rich after novelist Daphne du Maurier made Fowey her home, and with more literary associations plentiful including the literary critic and author Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch, Fowey (pronounced ‘foy’ to rhyme with joy) is a proper old fashioned Cornish harbour town with winding narrow streets and beautiful views. Walk either way from the hotel and you’ll find the south-west coast path along with riverside and coastal walks, traditional bathing beaches, and boat trips including over to Polruan and around to Mevagissey.

Residents may bring a dog, although not in the restaurant, and no children under eight, so enjoy grown-up luxury.
