<p>Chef Tom Bennetts of <a href="https://driftwoodspars.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Driftwood Spars</a> in St Agnes has made it through to the semi-finals of the National Chef of the Year competition, described as ‘The UK’s most prestigious culinary title’. He now has an anxious wait to see whether he’ll become one of just 10 chefs to make the final, which takes place in London this October.</p>



<p>Over at Watergate Bay, 12 years after he graduated from Fifteen&#8217;s academy, chef Ben Ambridge is back in the bay as head chef of Zacry&#8217;s. After closing his restaurants Onda and The Foxes Revenge (now the <a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/things-to-do/latest-news/read-all-about-it-its-your-latest-superflashy-newsflash-for-cornwall/">Tartan Fox and part of the Adam Handling group</a>) Ambridge is heading to Zacry&#8217;s to front their kitchen in their <a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/things-to-do/latest-news/superflash-latest-news-food-restaurants-hotels-december-cornwall/">new home on the sea wall</a> &#8211; where Emily Scott&#8217;s used to be.</p>



<p>Up in Bude, The Weir restaurant at Whalesborough <a href="https://www.instagram.com/theweirbude/p/C90Mu4_iZ1T/">has a new deli,</a> just launched, which celebrates Cornish produce. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s a very sad goodbye to Penzance&#8217;s The Shore restaurant. <a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/life/people/bruce-rennie-the-shore-restaurant-penzance/">Bruce Rennie</a> has announced that after nine fantastic year offering up one of Penzance&#8217;s best culinary experiences, he&#8217;s closing The Shore and moving on to a new project. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-travel-news">TRAVEL NEWS</h2>



<p>The FREE to download&nbsp;<a href="https://my-coast.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">MyCoast app</a>&nbsp;is now live in app stores, having been rolled out across all 60 RNLI Lifeguarded beaches in Cornwall for the summer season &#8211; check everything you need to know about your chosen beach before you visit including water conditions right the way through to the locations of dog bins.</p>

Highlighting the geological wonders of the region and the pivotal role that mining has played in shaping Cornwall&#8217;s industrial and cultural landscape, the new gallery is a major milestone in the&nbsp;institution’s history.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Can&#8217;t write a news round up and not mention the Olympics! Cornwall has a small but mighty selection of <a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/life/people/olympic-athletes-paris-2024-cornwall/">local Team GB stars medal hunting in Paris</a> – including Helen Glover back for her fourth games and Tom Daly for his fifth. </p>



<p>But how did they get on? It was GOLD for <a href="https://www.teamgb.com/athlete/morgan-bolding/2tHLutcUs3YOSYBjajoUw3">Morgan Bolding</a>&nbsp;in the Men’s Eight (rowing). Morgan comes from St Wenn near Withiel, and started his career rowing with the Castle Dore Rowing Club at Golant, near Fowey. Also rowing alongside Morgan was <a href="https://www.teamgb.com/athlete/jacob-dawson/3f4dG1sJUTERhNbiGY8yn6">Plymouth&#8217;s Jacob Dawson</a>.</p>



<p>Meanwhile it was SILVER for <a href="https://www.teamgb.com/athlete/helen-glover/5VIZdDXb4deWkL16xcl0tJ">Helen Glover</a> in the Women&#8217;s Four (rowing). She&nbsp;might live in Berkshire but she grew up in Penzance and her parents still own and run the ice cream shop Jelberts in Newlyn.  It was also SILVER for Plymouth&#8217;s <a href="https://www.teamgb.com/athlete/tom-daley/3y6lj3NwM4u2dORkh8DkXo">Tom Daly</a> in the 10m synchro diving, and <a href="https://www.teamgb.com/athlete/ben-proud/18nSSHCvm6SXFOsEZA1bvH" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ben Proud</a>&nbsp;in the Men’s Freestyle (swimming).</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-royal-news">ROYAL NEWS</h2>



<p>His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is the new Patron of The Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association. The Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association has a long history of Royal Patronages, including King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II. King Charles III, then HRH The Prince of Wales, took over the patronage in 2002, which he held until his accession to the throne in 2022.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-and-finally-one-for-your-diary">And finally &#8211; one for your diary</h2>



<p>Following two incredibly successful years since re-vamping their jewellery showroom and launching their interactive Tolgus Mill exhibition, <a href="https://www.cornwall-gold.com/">Cornwall Gold</a> are launching a brand-new Christmas market. Running from 5 to 8 December, they will be enticing visitors to Christmas shop in the marquee whilst immersed in Cornish history &#8211; the only place in the county where this is possible.</p>
