<p>Mid-week May Day celebrations in Padstow might not be for everyone, but for those that can, the celebrations start at midnight on 30 April and then re-commence at 8am on May Day. The maypole is set up on Broad Street, just back from the harbour, and the main Obby Oss (hobby horses) celebrations start at 10am and 11am, with the two oss&#8217; leaving from different locations at different ends of town, with parading and dancing.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-thursday-music-for-your-ears">THURSDAY: MUSIC FOR YOUR EARS</h2>

<p>Cornwall is host to the 2024 Cornwall International Male Choral Festival (CIMCF). The festival features 50 choirs from all over the globe in the largest festival of its kind (Thurs 2 &#8211; Mon 6 May) and the opening gala concert is at Hall for Cornwall on 2 May. An eclectic&nbsp;mix of youth and adult male choral ensembles from all over the world the festival offers live music and diverse programmes of choral music. Find 50 concerts and competitions in more than 40 venues right across the Duchy from St Ives to Falmouth, Newquay to Saltash, plus Hall for Cornwall. The festival culminates on the 6th May at the HFC where&nbsp;the music of Goff Richards with the cream of Cornish Male Voices and Brass with special guests the Prague Boys Choir and a West End Star will be celebrated.</p>

<p><em>Drawn by Nature</em>&nbsp;is a free show at&nbsp;The Gallery, Truro High School for Girls,&nbsp;featuring an eclectic body of work inspired by nature – from the woodlands of Luxulyan to the coral reefs of South Africa. Edward Rowe’s accompanying poetry is inspired by his brother Stuart Rowe’s art, derived from a winter on Bodmin Moor (ends&nbsp;<strong>Fri 3rd May</strong>).</p>



<p>ALSO LAST CHANCE FOR:<strong>&nbsp;<em>GO WHERE YOU FEEL GOOD</em></strong>,&nbsp;<a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/life/people/emma-digerud-white-visual-artist-2/">Emma&nbsp;Digerud-White</a>‘s compelling series of paintings that delve into the profound need to seek out spaces and experiences that evoke joy, love, and a sense of safety at Circle Contemporary, Hawksfield, Nr Wadebridge (ends&nbsp;<strong>Sat 4 May</strong>). And it’s your last chance to catch the UK’s first large-scale exhibition of work by Finland born artist&nbsp;<a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/things-to-do/arts-culture-things-to-do/outi-pieski-tate-st-ives-cornwall/">Outi Pieski is over at the Tate St Ives</a>&nbsp;(<strong>ends Mon 6 May</strong>) The exhibition at Tate St Ives presents Pieski’s figurative landscapes, photographs and prints alongside sculptural works.</p>

<p>Surfers from across England will battle for champion titles in divisions including junior and senior shortboard, longboard, SUP and bodyboard divisions on the Watergate Bay waves at the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.watergatebay.co.uk/blog/english-national-surfing-championships/">English Nationals surf competition</a>, one of the highlights of the surfing calendar. Watch from the beach, cliff top, or, the Living Space at Watergate Bay Hotel (<strong>Sat 4 – Mon 6 May</strong>) &#8211; let&#8217;s hope for bigger waves than this glorious scene above.</p>

<p>May Day ceremonies include the St Ives May Day 2024 which starts at 12 midday from the Guildhall in Street-an-Pol (<strong>Mon 6 May</strong>). The May King and Queen will be selected, and look out for Morris Dancers down by the lifeboat station.</p>
