<p>Set in a secluded hidden estate in West Cornwall, <a href="https://ennys.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ennys</a> offers an escape in the Cornish countryside, just minutes from the sea. This Georgian manor farm has been lovingly and meticulously transformed into a collection of four luxury self-catering cottages and suites by owner Karen West. </p>

<p>Contemporary decor, comforts and interiors blend seamlessly with historical charm; each stylishly converted from the original granary and dairy outbuildings. Guests also have access to the shared potager garden, orchards, woodland estate and outdoor swimming pool. </p>



<p>Ennys Cornwall is just inland from the south coast. Head to Prussia Cove for swimming and walking, and Penzance and Porthleven for shops and foodie outings.&nbsp;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-vibe">THE VIBE</h2>



<p>In ancient Celtic, Ennys means ‘remote’ or ‘island’ and you can see why the original owners chose the name; as soon as you arrive you realise that the manor farm turned boutique holiday bolthole remains completely hidden from the outside world. </p>



<p>Wind your way down the private drive, which in autumn when I stayed was awash in golden shades of bracken. In spring and early summer, you will be surrounded by bluebells and ferns, and by late summer, foxgloves. At night, it was so dark and quiet I stood listening to the resident tawny owl in the woodland, with the moon shining clearly out over the little walled vineyard.</p>

<p>Part of the present house was built in 1688 as a gentleman’s residence for Humphrey Millett, a tin merchant from Marazion whose initials are carved in the granite lintel over one of the doorways. The family owned the property for over 200 years and in the 18th century, the discovery of tin and copper on the land enabled them to extend and remodel&nbsp;Ennys&nbsp;into a Georgian manor to reflect their new prosperity.&nbsp; &nbsp;</p>

<p>Karen has beautifully designed the gorgeous, soothing countryside interiors. This is a place where you can switch off and shut out the outside world. She has individually decorated each of the four cottages to suit the sympathetic conversion. Fresh flowers, from small posies to full arrangements, sit in vases throughout. I also loved that she had thoughtfully chosen a stack of books for each bedside table.</p>

<p>During my visit, I stayed in Garden Cottage. It sleeps up to four, with a large double bedroom, a well-sized twin room downstairs, and a lovely bathroom stocked with Land &amp; Water toiletries and a walk-in shower. </p>



<p>Crisp white inviting bedding was a mix of vintage French, and also by Soak &amp; Sleep, with Graham and Greene velvet throws. With walls painted in Little Greene shades, and quirky lampshades a mix of vintage and Insta-fave, Pooky, it was welcoming and cosy, and quite frankly I could have stayed a lot longer.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-scoff-amp-quaff">SCOFF &amp; QUAFF</h2>



<p>Upstairs, a cleverly designed kitchen and living area, along with a table, is open plan. Light-filed, comfortable and stylish, this was the perfect place to switch off. With all mod-cons, including induction hobs and in some of the cottages, an electric aga, you could easily potter about preparing simple food and eating, in summer at least, with the door flung open with the view over the gardens.</p>

<p>Or, head out to nearby Penzance or Porthleven to avail yourself of foodie delights, returning for a nightcap. On arrival, Karen leaves a Cornish cream tea, with homemade scones, local jam and cream, and Tregothnan Tea, along with a breakfast hamper (which could easily also be a simple supper of eggs and sourdough) and pods for the Grind coffee maker for the morning.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-child-friendly">CHILD FRIENDLY?</h2>



<p>In a word, no. This is not the place for young children. Older children are hosted by discretion and arrangement. Essentially Karen has designed the Ennys Cornwall retreat to be tranquil and relaxing and with good reason; a day spent by the pool even in a shared space with adults is very different to one where young children are playing.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-dog-friendly">DOG-FRIENDLY</h2>



<p>Also in a word, no. Ennys Cornwall has their own animals &#8211; and resident wild animals &#8211; and therefore they say that the estate is not suitable for guests with dogs.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-accessibility">ACCESSIBILITY</h2>



<p>All four cottages have steps, so none are accessible.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-what-else">WHAT ELSE?</h2>



<p>Two cottages have wood-burners, and super-king size beds. Some bedrooms are downstairs, some are on a gorgeous mezzanine. <p>Guests are welcome across the grounds including in the orchard and vineyard, but the highlight is the gorgeous outside pool. East London parasols shade wooden loungers, and the pool sparkles in the sunshine. Unheated, it is a stunning way to cool down in hot weather, or indulge in some cold-water swimming when cooler. By October, the pool was around 15C and made a refreshing dip.</p>

<p>A woodland trail winds through beautiful ‘Winnie the Pooh’ woodlands, and in spring wild garlic and primroses flank the path. The owners have planted 1,800 trees here for future generations to enjoy. The greenhouse and raised beds of the kitchen garden flourish with seasonal delights, next to the BBQ area that guests are very welcome to enjoy.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-out-amp-about">OUT &amp; ABOUT</h2>



<p>It is a short cycle to Prussia Cove, where in the 18th century a pair of brothers rang a smuggling cartel. Look closely and you can still spot the cart tracks they carved into the rocks to move their contraband. It is now a beautiful place for a peaceful sea swim, or at low tide to enjoy the shingle beach. </p>

<p>A short drive away are the towns of Porthleven and Penzance, along with the village of Marazion from where you can cross to St Michael’s Mount. Penzance is home to the celebrated salt water art deco lido, the Jubilee Pool, now with geothermally heated waters. Culture vultures are in luck with several art galleries, outdoor theatre and the outdoor sculpture garden, Tremenheere. Also within reach is The Minack theatre at Porthcurno, and arty St Ives with the Tate, Barbara Hepworth Sculpture Garden and Leach Pottery.</p>

<p><strong>Good for</strong>: Anyone wanting to switch off &#8211; soothing restful stylish interiors are perfect for busy minds needing a break; the minimum stay gives you a proper chance to relax and reset. </p>



<p><strong>Not for</strong>: If you&#8217;ve young children or dogs, there are plenty of other options locally that will suit better. </p>



<p><strong>The damage:</strong> Minimum three nights stay, from £142 per night. Well Cottage; The Granary; Garden Cottage; and Godolphin first floor studio suite are all available for bookings in 2026 from 1 April through to 5 January 2027</p>
