<p>The Grade II listed Georgian hotel and restaurant is right in the centre of town at the bottom of the lovely Lemon Street and you&#8217;ll find it hard pressed to find a more convenient location if you&#8217;re after a night out in Truro. <a href="https://www.manningshotels.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mannings</a> is just ten minutes walk from the railway station (on the mainline from London) with bars, cinema, theatre (Hall for Cornwall, Old Bakery Studios) and more restaurants just moments away. <p>Super versatile, the award-winning Mannings restaurant is popular and busy with locals and hotel residents alike. Back in 2016 <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2016/may/15/mannings-truro-restaurant-review-jay-rayner">Jay Raynor</a> rated the long and complex menu and there were definitely plenty of options when I treated one of my girl friends to a &#8216;date night&#8217; on the town in Truro last week &#8211; we were sat between two couples on dates and every table was full, even in January. Although we were tempted by the <a href="https://manningshotels.co.uk/restaurant/earlyevening/">early evening theatre menu</a>, after consulting <a href="https://muddystilettos.co.uk/things-to-do/film-tv/">Muddy&#8217;s trusty cinema guide</a> we instead opted for an early screening and later meal. </p>

<p>Portions are decent sized and while attention has been paid to details, this isn&#8217;t such fine dining that you need a bed-time snack too. It&#8217;s definitely somewhere you can take your regular Cornish date to and they&#8217;ll be at home; it&#8217;s white tables but not white tablecloths, and there&#8217;s not one but two steak options on the à la carte menu, plus a slightly pared back version on the early evening menu too. Billed as cosmopolitan dishes with a Cornish twist, there&#8217;s all manner of pan-Asian dishes for those seeking something more adventurous. The staff are all friendly and didn&#8217;t bat an eyelid when we shared a starter and a steak with a bunch of sides. Drinks are by St. Austell Brewery and local wine merchant, Old Chapel Cellars, offering solid choices, and there&#8217;s cocktails on offer in the busy bar.</p>

<p>The date-night package includes a room in one of the nine four-star open plan apartments &#8211; the apartments won a Cornish Buildings Group award for the sensitive conversion of an historic site. Each one is spacious and light,&nbsp; with open plan living and a fully fitted kitchen (including Puro Espresso Coffee Pod Machines) and the one we stayed in had been configured as a twin, which was a nice touch. The beds were really comfy with crisp white sheets, the apartment had plenty of plug sockets and there was even a heat mat for hair-straighteners alongside decent full length mirrors and plenty of posing space (everything you need for a night out on the town!).</p>



<p>Also worth noting, if you&#8217;re planning a late one, the apartments are perfect, as they&#8217;re accessed from behind a coded gate, without needing to enter the main hotel. </p>



<p>Inside the main hotel rooms the rooms are stylish and contemporary &#8211; think blond wood, mid-century modern vibes and geometric patterns; head for the top floor for loads of light with roof-top views. The rooms are super convenient if work brings you to Truro or if you prefer being in the main listed Georgian building, or just don&#8217;t want or need a whole apartment.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-kid-friendly">KID-FRIENDLY</h2>



<p>There&#8217;s a kids menu and they are welcome, but it&#8217;s not a super-dedicated hotel for children. Older children and teens will be at home if you&#8217;re after a theatre-break type stay, but if you&#8217;re thinking of it more like a base for a family holiday with small children, there&#8217;s probably better suited options around Cornwall.</p>

<p>So many options, both in town and further afield! Cornwall&#8217;s award-winning theatre, Hall for Cornwall is literally steps outside the door, and the cinema not much further on Lemon Street. The cathedral is also just round the corner, home to concerts of all sorts as well as services and evensong, and don&#8217;t miss intimate gigs and comedy at The Old Bakery Studios. Truro is also home to Cornwall&#8217;s largest selection of shops, as well as restaurants, bars and cafés galore. Don&#8217;t miss The Rising Sun pub, just listed in the top 100 gastropubs in the UK, and the Thomas Daniell and Wig &amp; Pen are both recently under new ownership and renovated. There&#8217;s also the Royal Cornwall Museum and Lemon Street Gallery for a touch of culture.</p>



<p>Truro is a great central location to access other parts of Cornwall too &#8211; take the train to Falmouth or onto Penzance, and it&#8217;s not far to the Roseland via the King Harry ferry where you&#8217;ll find empty beaches (and Muddy fave The Hidden Hut). <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-dog-friendly">DOG FRIENDLY?</h2>



<p>Not in the main hotel rooms &#8211; so a good option for those that prefer their stays without dogs, or who are allergic &#8211; but two of the apartments are dog-friendly, and dogs are allowed in the bar.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-accessibility">ACCESSIBILITY</h2>



<p>Being a Grade II listed building there is no lift, and while staff are happy to ferry luggage this does mean the main hotel is less accessible for wheelchair users. There is however a ground floor apartment available which is wheelchair adapted along with a walk in shower room which has been fitted with a disability bathroom. This apartment has a double bed along with a fitted wheelchair adapted kitchen. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-muddy-verdict">THE MUDDY VERDICT</h2>



<p><strong>Good for:</strong> The Lemon Street location and contemporary vibe makes it ideal for a Truro city break, particularly combined with the theatre / cinema, or to be very central for work.</p>



<p><strong>Not for:</strong> If a Cornish stay without a sea view doesn&#8217;t float your boat then there are other options that will suit more.</p>



<p><strong>The damage:</strong> The Date Night stay includes one night stay for two in an open plan 4 Star AA apartments along with breakfast, complimentary car parking, cocktails for each person&nbsp;and a £35.00 voucher to use in Mannings restaurant &#8211; for £159.00 per night – Monday through Saturday.</p>
