Nestled in 26 acres of Cornish countryside, mid-way between the north and south coasts, The Cornish Place is exclusive group of luxury cottages, rented individually or together for a stunning escape.

Combining luxury with the wild beauty and romance of Cornwall, the cottages together sleep up to 16. Rent one, or them all, and enjoy outdoor living at its best with hot tubs, fire-pits and barbecues. When exclusive use of the cottages is booked, guests can also use the Piggery – it’s a blank space, perfect for a party or dining together, and also a licensed wedding venue for exclusive use weddings.

THE VIBE

Owners Andi and Adam Freeman live on site at The Cornish Place, and were in part inspired by previous holidays that they had taken to France, staying at family-run places with a real ‘home from home’ vibe, where guests leave firm friends and return frequently. When the opportunity came up to own the 26-acre Victorian dairy farm in their beloved Cornwall, there was no looking back.

Thoughtfully renovated from the original barn and stables (now two and three bedroom cottages) in 2022 Adam and Andi added the Dairy Shed with its luxurious contemporary interiors, which sleeps up to six. In 2023 the ‘Butt-Ugly’ bar was added, below, with firepit and countryside views, giving greater scope to long summer nights and coming in to its own with exclusive hire and weddings.

The Cornish Place specialises in curated Cornish outdoor living – Adam and Andi live on site along with several dogs, horses and chickens, plus the stable cat, so are on-hand to welcome guests, organise everything from private chefs to babysitters, private yoga classes, spa treatments and more. Andi, previously a wedding cake maker, also keeps a steady stream of freshly baked cakes available every day, and all guests receive a welcome hamper. Curated stays also means that once you’ve made your booking you can organise a call with Adam and Andi who can look after your heart’s desires for your unique Cornish retreat!

Cornwall runs through the whole place – it’s not named The Cornish Place for nothing; from the locally-made wooden bodyboards by Dick Pearce in every cottage for use by the guests, to dry bags by Finisterre and food from local suppliers like neighbours Primrose Herd and Cornish Yarg, there’s a strong sense of place throughout.

SCOFF & QUAFF

Self-catering is the name of the game at The Cornish Place, with each of the cottages equipped with a proper kitchen and table to eat at, plus BBQ and firepit – and unlimited firewood and charcoal. Before arriving, local ready meals and barbecue boxes can be pre-ordered so the fridge starts off stocked, and there is a welcome hamper in the kitchen, plus the aforementioned cakes and local ice-cream. Plus, if you book a seven night stay, there’s an option to include a free pizza party too.

Don’t fancy cooking? Adam and Andi can arrange for private chef Tom Beanland to cater for you. If you take the whole place, he can also do your event catering, including weddings. Tom specialises in using local and seasonal produce with all sorts of different cultural influences to shape your meals as you would like to enjoy them – whether that’s great big sharing plates and salads, or more fancy hors d’oeuvres and perfectly presented individual dishes.

PILLOW TALK

The Stables (sleeps six) and The Barn (sleeps four) have been lovingly converted, as their name suggests, from original farm buildings. Each is different, with different styles and themes across the bedrooms, with each featuring local artwork, books by and about local subjects – and includes bath and beach towels (and waffle bathrobes for adults), plus locally produced toiletries. You hardly need pack!

The Dairy and The Shed are semi-detached properties which can be connected to create The Dairy Shed. The latest addition to The Cornish Place, The Dairy Shed, was built from scratch in 2022 to blend in with the existing farm conversions and sleep six in total (or two, and four, separately).

SPA

No dedicated spa area, but each property is host to it’s own private wood-fired hot tub and fire-pit, and The Dairy Shed has an outdoor bath tub too.

If you’re a serious fitness fanatic, do not fear, there’s also a state-of-the-art micro gym on site, plus plenty of walking/running routes; for everyone else, don’t worry, spa treatments are available too.

KID-FRIENDLY

Yes! And encouraged. Kids will love the bunk-beds in The Dairy, and highchairs and wooden cots can also be provided by arrangement in each cottage.

On-site there is a play field with football goal, rugby and netball posts and associated balls. There is also a ping pong table in the Courtyard with bats and balls in the Piggery. There is plenty of room for kids to let off steam in a car-free environment.

There is a beach box near the car park with buckets and spades, kites and crabbing lines that can be used, and guests are invited to leave items too that aren’t needed back home to help stop plastic waste. Beach towels for adults and robies for kids under 10 are also included in each cottage.

OUT & ABOUT

Should you want to leave (um, why!) The Cornish Place is a fabulously central location to be based, with plenty to do in every direction. Based just seven miles inland means you’re in easy reach of both coasts. Surfers and bodyboarders will want to head to Porthtowan, Godrevy or perhaps up to St Agnes and Newquay; fans of watersports like windsurfing and foiling will find Stithians reservoir and watersports centre just a mile away and those that enjoy paddle boarding and swimming might prefer the calmer south coast.

Cornwall’s cathedral town Truro with theatre and cinema is not far away, and coastal Falmouth is a short drive too – with dog and baby sitting available, it’s easy to make a night out work.

DOG FRIENDLY?

Yes! In fact, dogs are almost encouraged and The Cornish Place has won awards for dog friendly stays. Not only are crates, bowls and treats included for your four-legged friends and dog-friendly features like slate floors, there’s a secure dog walking field on site, and dog-sitting is on offer too.

ACCESSIBILITY

All bedrooms are on the ground floor – The Dairy is the only accessible cottage without steps. It has wheelchair-width doorways and a wet room with room for a wheelchair too. There’s a ramp to the front door and level access to the decking (although not the rest of the garden which is on a slope.)

THE MUDDY VERDICT

Now in their fifth year Andi and Adam welcome returning guests year-on-year, and winning Muddy Cornwall’s Boutique Stay in 2023, The Cornish Place has plenty of fans.

Good for: Larger / extended family groups who want their own living space but to have the run of the site and option to eat communally. Not for: The Cornish Place is handily located for accessing both coasts but it doesn’t have a sea view, and as you’re likely to encounter other guests on site, if you don’t want to encounter another soul, there are other options that might suit better.
