<p>This month, <a href="https://74n5c4m7.r.eu-west-1.awstrack.me/L0/https:%2F%2Fwww.stmichaelsresort.com%2F/2/01020190a099f814-3704be75-9850-4536-9029-86b2c8645622-000000/WuHP0gPvCRxm6ukufS_BKdNYFng=382">St Michaels Resort</a> reopened their newly refurbished tennis courts in Falmouth, offering quality facilities and stunning sea views to the local Falmouth community.</p>



<p>The four courts are located just a stone’s throw from Gyllyngvase beach, which is a rarity in Cornwall, and have acted as a popular community hub for many years. The hotel has invested a significant £80,000 to enhance and improve the courts for keen tennis players and are proud to be reinvesting in the Falmouth community and local area – these courts are open to everyone.</p>

<p>The Porthcurno Tennis courts are available for hire from PK Porthcurno Museum on an hourly basis for £5 &#8211; have a game, then look round the museum, before heading to the beach. You&#8217;ll have to provide your own equipment, the Museum does not have access to any balls or rackets. The courts date back to when PK Porthcurno was the famous Porthcurno Telegraph Station (or PK in telegraphic code). </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-wadebridge-tennis-club"><a href="https://clubspark.lta.org.uk/WadebridgeTennisClub">Wadebridge Tennis Club</a></h2>



<p>This LTA registered club has five outdoor courts and an active club membership, but you can also just book a court and pay as you play (although you&#8217;ll need your own rackets and ball). Runs summer camps for kids in the school holidays with the pro-coach, as well as after school coaching.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-heron-tennis-centre-newquay"><a href="https://www.heron-tennis.co.uk/">Heron Tennis Centre</a>, Newquay</h2>



<p>Heron Tennis has five outdoor hard courts, two indoor acrylic courts, two artificial clay courts,&nbsp;and also offers Padel Tennis and Mini Tennis. Heron is home to Ace Tennis Coaching &amp; Academy. Book online for pay and play starting at £10 for visitors, with equipment available to hire from £3.</p>

<p>You&#8217;ll find six grass courts as well as three floodlit hard courts, some of which are available on a pay and play basis from £10. Perranporth Tennis Club also offers affordable tennis ranging from mini membership at £11 to family membership at £116, as well as LTA coaching.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-bodmin-tennis-club"><a href="https://www.better.org.uk/leisure-centre/cornwall/bodmin-leisure-centre/tennis-bodmin-leisure-centre">Bodmin Tennis Club</a></h2>



<p>Somewhere to play when it rains! There are three indoor courts at Bodmin as well as four Mini Red Courts and they run a variety of options from court hire to tennis taster sessions up to full LTA coaching. Outside are four full size and two mini courts, all floodlit. Non-members can hire courts for an hour from £24 (indoor) or £9 (outdoor).</p>

<p>Eight outdoor courts, some of which are floodlit, can be booked by the hour online from £8.50, or, you can pay for an annual pass for your whole household for £45. You&#8217;ll need your own equipment, but you book online and you&#8217;ll get sent the pin for accessing the courts.</p>



<p>If you&#8217;re on holiday some hotels have courts where guests can play including <a href="https://www.bedruthan.com/families">Bedruthan at Mawgan Porth</a> and <a href="https://luxuryfamilyhotels.co.uk/locations/fowey-hall/?">Fowey Hall Hotel</a>, as well as self-catering including The Point Holidays and Highcliffe Cornwall.</p>

<p>If you&#8217;re looking for something like tennis but different, a fast-growing sport gaining popularity in Cornwall is padel tennis.  A cross between tennis, squash and beach tennis, it can be played both inside and outside, played in an enclosure of glass (so you can bounce the ball off the wall to score points like you do in squash) with a tennis net in the middle of the court. You’ll find padel courts at tennis clubs (including <a href="https://www.heron-tennis.co.uk/">Heron Tennis Centre</a>, Newquay) and the like where original tennis courts have been converted, as well as places like <a href="https://www.thepointatpolzeath.co.uk/health-club/padel-tennis/">The Point</a> at Polzeath (above), and golf clubs.</p>



<p>From September, a new collaboration with UK Padel hits Porth, Newquay, where the largest padel club in Devon and Cornwall opens at SeaSpace. Five courts will be available to members, three doubles and in a first for the south west, two will be dedicated singles courts. Worried about the Cornish weather? <p>Combining badminton, tennis and tabletennis, Pickleball England claims that it is the fastest growing sport in Europe. While it is certainly not actually new, having started in around 2011, it was new at my gym for 2024.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.pickleballengland.org/pickleball-club-locator-england/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cornwall has four dedicated Pickleball clubs</a>&nbsp;(Truro, Redruth, St Austell and St Just) but it is also being offered by leisure centres and gyms. It is billed as slightly easier to access than tennis as the ball speed is lower, and requires less space, as well as being able to be played inside – and can be played with two or four players.</p>
