While many us ease into autumn hibernation, some of you I know, are gluttons for physical punishment. So this post’s for you! Check out these Cornwall-based endurance events and challenges.

Holy Grit, Trevornick Holiday Park, Holywell Bay, Sat 7 Oct
Battle all of the elements at Holywell Bay as you run, crawl and bounce your way to glory this October at Holy Grit. Holiday park Trevornick is hosting the event for the second year running; a unique, all terrain obstacle course designed to push contenders’ physical and mental strength. Every element is included in the course – water, fire, earth and wind, with hell-themed challenges including ‘Twisted Torment’, ‘Gates of Hell’ and ‘Buried Alive’. Contestants can choose from 6km, 12km and 24km courses on Cornwall’s leg-destroying sand dunes and towering sea cliffs and brand new this year, is the 1.5 km kids’ obstacle course for the mightiest minis.
Kernow Killer, Chyverton Park Country Estate, Sat 28 Oct
Run by Cornwall Sports Events, this assault course challenge uses the tough Cornish landscape to put contestants through their paces. Nestled within 400 acres of woodland, farmland and parkland, the Kernow Killer is held at the stunning Chyverton Park Country Estate. Not that you’re likely to notice the views while beasting yourself on your choice of the 9-10 mile Kernow Killer or 4-5 mile Kernow Destroyer. You’ll be be faced with obstacles to climb, scramble through, wade across, swim over or under to reach the finish line by any means may be necessary. Event organisers claim “these gruelling miles will test your physical and mental strength and will bring a new meaning to the word pain”. Free camping is available.
Retallack Rampage, Retallack Resort, St Columb Major, Sat 18 Nov
Is your washing machine ready? Dubbed ‘Cornwall’s toughest mud run’, the Retallack Rampage is a test of strength and stamina, which promises to get you muddier than you’ve ever been before. Again, there are two courses to choose from, The Rampaging 7.5km course or the Tuff Nut 15km course with 40+ obstacles to overcome. Challenges include the The Kiss of Mud, Snake Pitt, Birthing Canal, Rumble in the Jungle and Tunnel Vision. Early bird tickets are available until Sat 30 Sept. Waves of mudders will be setting off all day, so you just book the slot that suits you and away you go.
