I don’t often get time for a manicure – either at home or in a salon – but when I do, it’s always so pleasing to see a glossy strip of colour adorning the end of my fingers. I instantly feel more put together, more like a woman in control (rather than a woman on the verge!) Sometimes it’s the small things that give you the biggest lift, isn’t it?

You know when a previously unconsidered shade suddenly seems absolutely on the money? This is how I feel about this orange. It’s pleasingly ’70s, the decade that’s the key influence on this season’s fashion collections, plus it bring rust-coloured leaves and pumpkin lattes to mind. (Shade: Playing Koi).

If anyone can make fashion’s new favourite colour, brown, sexy then Chanel can. I think I may love this glossy chocolate-coloured gloop more than actual chocolate, believe it or not. (Shade: Opulence).

I had a mani using this brand and the colour was chip-free for absolutely ages. It’s also very quick-drying. This dark red is a classic autumn colour – glass of Merlot, anyone? (Shade: Afters).

Green dress plus green polish is my favourite going out look at the moment. Topshop’s beauty range is massively underrated – it’s cheap as chips and impressive quality. Give this sophisticated forest green a whirl. (Shade: Tumble).

This cult brand are known for their breathable polishes that don’t wreck your nails. Slate grey is always a très chic look for autumn. (Shade: Lacquer Stone).
